Default Any Way To Check Mileage Without DIC?

My DIC display has stopped working and I was wondering if there is any other way to check the odometer?

Probably use a mileage tracker app like this one:

According to Wikipedia there is an obdii PID for the odometer [A6]. If GM implemented it and you have a programmable scan tool/app you could retrieve it through the obdii port. I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks for responding. Is there a specific scan tool I need to do this?

No problem. Something like an obd2 wifi dongle with the torque app should work. You would need an app that allows manual PID programming such as the torque app. I have this, will try it later today and report back.

Bad news. Looks like GM did not implement any OBD2 PIDs above 3F. So reading from OBD does not work for the odometer. Sorry.

The odometer value is stored in the IPC, so probably a tech2 can read it.

Will it show up with the key out and turn the headlight switch on?

a speedometer shop can retrieve it for you with the cluster removed from the car. There are no electronic components available to repair your unit , you will have to get another good cluster like I did . Try vettnuts for a cluster

Called my dealer. Their answer was "no" they can't do it. Here looking for 2nd opinion, because I don't believe the dealer.

My DiabloSport Trinity tuner can read the odometer.

Default Anyone found a way that is confirmed to work for reading Odometer without DIC on C5?

Seems like this topic about a need to read Odometer without DIC has been discussed pretty extensively but I have not found a definitive answer yet. Mode 01 PID A6 is not working when I test it.

I can confirm that a shop that worked on my C5 was able to read the Odometer somehow and they shared the current reading at the time with me when I had them do some work on the car. I have tried using Torque Pro with standard OBDII Mode 01 PID A6 and also PID 31 (which is used by those mileage tracking apps for expense reporting purposes). Those yield NO VALUE in the Torque app. Using the BAFX Wifi Dongle that some folks recommended, I found that I can only get Mode 01 PIDs 00-1F... and not all of those. Nothing beyond 1C works with the dongle I am using.

I have seen quite a few folks commenting about Mode 22 PIDs and Torque offers a preset list of some of those for GM cars. So far, I have not found any Mode 22 PIDs that get any results with the Dongle I am using so I am starting to wonder if I need a different dongle but I am not yet sure if the C5s expose the data in this way or not.

Has anyone found any PIDs other than Mode 01 PIDs 00-1C to work at all on a C5 ?

The only thing I am really hoping to find a way to do right now is a consistent and reliable way to read the odometer without the DIC so if anyone has a confirmed way to do that without a multi-thousand dollar scan tool or subscription, please let me know.

Consider reading the first post, so that you'll understand the problem before posting what you think is a solution.

Unless you're a [ insert least favorite demographic here ] who thinks forums need more stereotyping and divisive bullshit.

It's funny how many people saw "mileage" and assumed the OP needs help with a miles-per-gallon problem:

I see this is a couple of years late but figured worth posting since there seems to be a whole lot of wrong information out there on this topic. On my 1999 C5, I have found that a Foxwell NT530 with the GM software load reads the Odometer and both Trip Meters without any problems. Hope this helps others who have been stumbling with this issue.
