There are a few threads on this topic. As was said above... if you like being in a 'club', then it's fine. There are some discounts to various vendors and to the NCM.
There is a mailing list and forum. The mailing list is pretty active. The forum, not so much.
It seems that they have a set up at major events like Corvettes at Carlisle. Nice folks.
In my opinion, there are PLENTY of Corvette clubs at the local and state level. On top of that, there are clubs that focus on particular sections of the Corvette community. I've always been a car club person, but I actually find it difficult to decide which clubs to join (and spend my money on). But I do find it good to be part of some local clubs for networking purposes and for meeting fellow Corvette owners.
I've been the organizer for a car club before and I can appreciate the effort it takes to bring in members and keep things going.

I joined the first year I had my GS. Didn't renew but I'm not much of a club person.

I’m a multi year member.
They organize a number of special events every year, while some change others happen every year.
special parking @ Carlisle
Evening BBQ @ Carlisle (normally free for members at a offsite location. Wonderful hosts, location and company.)
woodward Dream cruise with special activities and parking
a couple of years ago we did a behind the scenes tour of GM museum
We team up with the ZR1 group to run the dragon and go to the vette museum
Grand Sport registary is a big supporter of the ncm as such we get some special perks during our visits
Members have gotten together for other drives like rt66, black hills, etc
The community is very active, helpful and knowledgeable via emails to all
lastly I would say the people make the community. I’ve been able to meet, speak with and become friends with folks
that are well connected throughout the vette world and GM.
