Changing calipers a big deal!

Changing calipers a big deal!
Didn't realize changing the calipers to a different color would be such a big deal. According to GM, they are unable to assist with non original equipment parts and can not verify fitment if they are not specific to your VIN. I don't understand that at all! I'm the second owner of a 2013 GS, Black exterior, Black wheels, ebony interior. I Love the car! Of course the calipers are gray with red lettering and the fender badge lettering is red as well as the lettering on the fuel rail covers. Being a Steelers fan I thought I would change the lettering to yellow, which I've already done, and order new yellow calipers.Bummer!
So my choices are, change the yellow I've done back to red and leave the car as it was, or find someone who can paint my calipers yellow.

If you can live without calipers then I'd take them off and find someone who can powder coat them to your liking. Else there are companies who can send you calipers in your color choice and then return yours for the core charge refund. I've looked into this for my '12 base coupe and am leaning towards a local company - I'll wait until next winter when I have time to put it on blocks for a week or two.

I have not purchased any calipers, nor have I asked a dealer to install them. I contacted GMPartsDirect.CO about the parts and that was their response. What I want are the yellow Corvette calipers with the black lettering that I've seen on other cars and in the brochures. I wasn't aware you get OEM calipers elsewhere.

Ebay has them.

The other option is to remove the calipers from the rotors, remove the brake pads from the calipers, without removing the brake hoses, suspend the calipers using hooks or rope, and paint the calipers and letter whatever color that you want yourself. I now have red calipers with yellow lettering, and am changing them soon to yellow with black lettering.
High quality caliper ceramic paint flows easily and dries to an even smooth coat that does not show any brush marks.
Good Luck with your decision.

I have the Gray Brembos with the red lettering. Is there a good place to buy the decals for the Corvette writing on the calipers once they are painted?

That is what I hope to do soon with mine. Did you use the G2 paint? If so, did one package do all four calipers, or did you need to buy an additional package? I would like to get a red close to CRM, but they seem to only have a bright red, and a couple Mustang Reds.

I am going with the G2 system this time, rated for 980 F. It only has 4 oz of paint, so it will be close to get 2 coats. It is a epoxy based paint with a reactor, so i'm assuming it will be a much harder finish that Duplicolor. G2 has Custom Color Match Brake Caliper Paint, so it can perfectly match your car paint. The custom kit is a bit more expensive at approx $110.00

I just had my factory calipers painted. And the rotors done in a high chrome polish. I think all in I am at $600. In my research I kept finding people that bought the aftermarket colored calipers where cracking. If one cracks you still have to buy a pair. So, I went with having them painted. Here is a pic. Mine were all gray. Not sure if you can see the high chrome polish on the rotors in this pic. If you are in the South East (ATL area) there is an awesome corvette shop. I have met people that have their Vette's trucked into this place.

In the past, I painted a set using Duplicolor Caliper paint and that went on easily and dried smooth. It's rated for 500 F. I had no issues with chipping etc. The duplicolor kit comes with 8 oz of paint. I did 2 coats and still had 1/2 can left over. It is enamel with ceramic resin.

Thanks for the information. Yeah I saw that G2 offers the color match after I posted my questions. I think the duplicolor has more color options and has a darker red that will probably be close enough. Was that a brush on kit as well? I read another person post on the Camaro forums that used the G2 with the reactor, said he was able to paint with it a lot longer than the claimed, I think it is stated to be 4 hours. He said he started at 11:30AM and still could use the paint at 10:00PM that evening. He also said he used an aerosol can and sprayed the paint on. That may have extended the time. But he did all four calipers and a quite a few pieces under the hood as well.
You can however get the Duplicolor paint is aeresol spray can, but it is separate from the kit, which has a can of paint only, plus brake cleaner, etc.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck with your project

The G2 kit is great, I did mine. My advice would be to get someone to help you paint, it does harden rather quickly. I took my calipers off the car, was a great time to flush the brake fluid as well.

The duplicolor kit was a brush on application, but I did not use the hard bristle brush that came with the kit, but rather a good natural fiber brush. The G2 kit comes with a can of paint and the reactor so it is a brush on application. I don't believe that the G2 is available in spray can.

Paint the ones you've got and get new decals from eBay to install on them.

Get the G2 kit in the yellow that you want and paint them. I painted mine Inferno Orange to match, painted them on the car without removing or disconnecting anything - simply tape off what you don't want to get paint on. One can of G2 allowed for 4 coats on each caliper. I moved from one caliper to the next so by the time I got back to the first it was ready for another coat. I then ordered replacement decals $15 for all 4.
