New Z06 owner, issues right off the lot..
Hello everyone,
This is the first Corvette I have ever owned, albeit my father has built a '62 from the ground up and owned a few ZR1's in his day.
I purchased a 2019 Z06 ZL1, a few concerns I have now that I have put nearly 300 miles on it while driving it back from Vegas.
1. The A/C WILL NOT get ice cold. Even when I set the dial to "low" which I would only assume is low 60's; the air feels like mid to high 70's. Is this normal?
2. When I stop the car, I smell almost like a burning smell like when your clutch is burned up and going out.
I haven't driven this car over 100mph, haven't hit any hard bumps. Basically have driven it like the little angel it is, and these 2 items just seem kind of odd to me. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this or if its just normal during the cars 500 mile "break in" period.
I need answers ASAP before I bring this to the dealership.

My suggestion is the obvious one....get it to a dealer, immediately, for warranty service. No idea on the A/C, it could be no gas from the factory or a leak that allowed all the gas to escape. That nasty smell could be just about anything, as well, but most often it's just all the new components fired up and running, some of which (like the mufflers) burning off the paint once the power train gets up to full heat. Take a deep breath, I'd be PO'd as well, but you might find out it's pretty simple.

The burning smell is the oils on the metal parts (mufflers, exhaust pipes and engine heat) burning off. That's normal for a new car. The AC is something I would bring to the dealers attention as soon as you can.
Congrats on the new ride!

You are driving a plastic car. Sometimes parts get moved around and rest on something hot. Burning plastic of the correct composition will smell like a clutch burning. Also a wiring harness can make that smell if it happens to rest on a hot part of the exhaust when it shouldn't be there.
The smell and the AC should be checked by the dealer.

1) AC not being cold.. do you have the re-circulate on and the AC on? You might just have the low temp set but without the AC on.
2) Burning smell is common with any new car and it’ll smell that way even if you install a new exhaust.for a few.
Good luck with your new car and enjoy it. There isn’t anything wrong with it.

AC and smell feedback
First new Z06 for me as well.
1. Off the lot I had several issues with it being a 2016 Z06.... service engine soon light came on and I had the smells as well.
The car does not like sitting in traffic in high heat and the more you do it, even at cruising speeds the worst the smell will get worst of new. I agree with other members, it’s likely parts settling. I can’t stress enough to follow the break in. Get to a dealership, and wait for the car, they will have a z06 level tech inspect it and run diagnostics.
2. The settings menu: go to AC vent speed and make sure it’s to your liking. When the car is a little warm, 70 degrees feels like 80. It’s just the nature of the car. Consistent and super cold AC is not it’s strong suit.
Good luck

I too had a weak AC in my '16. I noticed it as the salesman was with me in the car just minutes before i left home with it. While he was guiding me with the onstar trial service and other features like pairing my phone, i noticed the air wasn't blowing cold. Mind you i bought this car on the HOTTEST day of the summer that day. It was almost 110 degrees. I got there early in the morning when it was only 80 but with the paperwork, and waiting, and waiting some more, i left the dealer around 12-1'ish, so it was hot.
I don't really use the AC in this car much anyway since it's a weekend car but if it's really hot out, i have to use it. I would say anything 85 degrees and above i'll use the AC. And it works fine, unless it's extremely hot like 95+, then the air will blow cold for about 30 seconds, then go warm for 30 seconds, then back cold 30 seconds and repeat. I didn't care because it's not a big deal. But now i see i'm not the only one with the problem, so now i really don't care lol.
I had a 5th gen camaro before and that thing was blowing out ice cubes through the vents, that's how cold it was. I never had to put the fan speed more than like 3. It was so cold. Doesn't matter if it was only 80 degrees out, or 110, the AC was ICE COLD.
So i think it's just our cars with terrible AC.

You are getting good advice. The smell is <likely> completely normal and will be with you for hundreds if not thousands of miles. If you see smoke....then maybe there is cause for concern.
The AC......mine works pretty well in my 2016. But in order to make sure that it should be on, the "AC" indicator should be shown and put your climate control temps to LO. On a hot day the cooled air in a properly functioning system should be about 20 degrees below "ambient;" with ambient being the inside air temp if on ReCirc and the outside air temp if not (at least that is basic AC parameters). If you just started the car after it baking in the sun on a 100 degree day, it will take some time to get to max coolness because all of your ducts, like the inside of the car, is at 130-140 degrees F....
I have had problems with the AC on my 2010 CTS-V (leaking condenser fitting) and my 2017 suburban (there was a recall due to a defective somethingoruther, and I also had a leak in the condenser), but in both cases it was fixed quickly and painlessly.
On a Ford I used to have years ago they could never find a leak and I found it easier just to buy a recharge hose and fitting and a can of R-12 or R-34 or whatever the appropriate refrigerant was at the time and recharge it myself every year......quicker and easier that dealing with the shop

I think you're worried about nothing. It's new, it's normal. Mine when it stays without driving for a long time, it smells like burnt, smells like oil and plastic, I've always had that on new cars that I don't use much

What's the ambient temp when you're testing the AC?
Stick a thermometer in the air vent and see what's what.should be in the 36 to 40f range on low medium fan speed.
My 2016 and my buddy's blow ice out the vents in summer.car gets freezing inside.
As for smells? Sounds like normal break in.
Good luck
