Default Stock 81 - Tech to Speed question

I was driving around today and for some reason I'm thinking that my rpm's are too high for the speed I'm going.

I don't have any clutch slip and everything is fine but it seems I'm running higher rpm's then I remember. But maybe it's always been like this and I'm losing my mind.

Anybody with a stock 81 with a 4 speed and 350 seeing the same rpm to speed?

Can’t compare to my 73 auto but those RPMs do look awfully high.

Don't trust any of the OEM gauges. Use a digital timing light to check that your tachometer is reading correctly, and use a phone app to check your speed (I use SpeedOverlay).

Those numbers are about twice what they should be. Are you sure you're in 4th gear?

Those rpm are well out for the speeds you say. Follow the advice already given.

Using a speedometer app on my phone I've confirmed that the speedometer is correct. So that leads me to believe the tachometer is wrong.

Is there a sensor that can be causing this and where is it located?
