Default A8 takes 2-3 sec. to drop into gear....?

15' Z06 A8
when cold, it seems like it takes 2+ sec. to engage Drive once you move shifter to D
anyone else experience this, is this normal?
Fix / Dealer reprogram or?
Someone tell me there's a service bulletin about this I missed...

I drove 18' A8 and it didn't do this.

My 2015 did that (delayed engagement) for 3+ years and was never fixed by multiple dealers. I now have an m7 and love it. That automatic at wide open throttle was great, but EVERY other second it was complete junk. So many issues.... torque converter replaced at 9,000 miles, 40-45mph flutter, constant delayed engagement from park, hard 1-2 shifts, down shifting twice when smashing the gas hard, inconsistent shifting patterns at all speeds.... it was a pile of junk.

All 2015 and 2016ba8 trans (regardless of vehicle) suffer from this. What is actually happening is the torque converter is draining it’s fluid back into the pan after several hours of sitting. Newer models have been assembled with an encapsulated check ball in the stator support that prevents this from happening. Many dealers don’t want to or can’t replace the stator support. Many do not have a trans builder on the payroll, and warranty work is not where the money is made. I suggest starting the car, then buckling up and adjust the stereo, by that time the car will have been running for 30-45sec and it will drop right into gear.

I always hear that dealers don't want to do warranty work, but the stator shaft support replacement pays us around $2,100 to complete. I'd be surprised if dealers actually wanted to turn that work down. If so, they must be too busy to take on any work. With that being said, GM does require a snap shot of the data showing the delay from Park to Reverse or Park to Drive is above 3 seconds. If we can not show data proving the delay is excessive, we can not get approval from GM to replace parts.

My 2015 started to do that last year (9,000 miles). After start-up, it would go smoothly into reverse to back out of the garage. It would then sit for 2 seconds after putting it in D, then engage with a clunk. Took it to my dealer (excellent 'Vette mechanic). Left it overnight, he test drove it in the morning, reprogrammed the trans and flushed it. Fixed,.under warranty. No more problems - 10,000+ miles now. Glassy smooth operation (I use the plug in V-4 disabler).

Any way to confirm what the reprogram was exactly so I can pass that on to my dealer mech?

I think he said he was just going to reinstall/reload the basic trans. Program. There wasn’t any special reprogramming, to my knowledge.

It's certainly a warranty issue (though one I chose not to bother with, since it only happened cold), but are you SURE it's solved by software? I was pretty sure the trans had to come out to install a check ball. But it sounds like Mike got his problem resolved?

Actually they are pretty awesome, and the delayed “drive” engagement is a separate issue from the stator support, just as that is separate from the shudder/lock-up algorithm issue. All are fixable and this trans will do some amazing things I assure you.

I have had my 2015 Z51 programmed about 4 times, my delay time is "only 2.5 seconds", they are trying the pump now. It has been in the shop for 9 days. 4th visit for this problem and 5 total, have owned it for 21 months. My dream car is not very fun at times. May need to look into the lemon law, getting pretty tired of this.

I have an updated stator support shaft now, picked it up yesterday so we shall see. I bought this 2015 Z51 w/ 25K miles on it 21 months ago. Has 49K now tranny problems started about 32K. It has been to the shop 7 times, four times for transmission work. I REALLY hoped this works. Someone was finally able to realize the belt tensioner rattling,on the last test drive, they put 120 miles on my car and used nearly 3/4 tank of fuel. Last time I brought it in for that it was a "cannot duplicate". I just think some of these techs are not up to date on all issues, maybe GM does not flow enough info, maybe too many cars to worry about...….. Anyway, going to give it one more chance then it's gotta go.

As someone else stated. I took my 15Z in for this same issue, and they reprogrammed the cpu and it hasnt come back since so far. I believe ive put about 3-4k miles on it since. It was covered under warranty.

This is was my exact experience in 3+ years of ownership of my brand new 2015 Stingray (with z51 package) automatic. I now have a Z06 with M7 and it's awesome! The automatic was so completely unpredictable and inconsistent. Multiple trips to the dealer for the same problems and never fixed.

How i wish GM was smart and put the ZF 8 speed into the Z. There's a reason why the high end cars use it. It's an incredible trans.

If they did that, i would have an auto Z now. But they didn't, so i went with the manual. I'm not too fond of the 5th gear brick wall lol
