Default I’m buying a 1980 c3 and I have some questions

I made a post titled
“I don’t know which c3 I should get. Please help”
i found one that I want, and I already put a deposit on it, it’s a 1980 L82, i should be ready to go pay the rest in a week or two and bring it home, it’s in amazing condition for a good price I think, it has a few tiny chips on the bottom lip on the front bumper that about it, it’s got alittle over 40,000 miles. I’m wondering if I should get a extended warranty, by it self it’s only 30 days, I’m no mechanic, I’m a welder but I know how to do basic stuff like change the oil, filter, tires, brakes, and the boss at the dealer said you don’t really need a extended warranty because they are really simple, and mostly mechanical, so should I get one? And is there anything else I should ask them about? Also Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions

Has it been in an accident? See if they can tell you. Carfax does not go that far back? Any rust issues you can see? You should get the factory service manual and the Assembly Manual. There is very little computerish stuff on them. I think it's limited to the EGR and carb. They are pretty simple to work on. I do not claim to be an expert by any means. I bought a 77 L-48 not quite 2 years ago and am happy with it.

If the warranty is included??Long as it doesnt have a bum motor/trans/AC dont bother. Some of those aftermarket warranties arent worth the paper they are written on. You have to use thier repair person and some have huge deductibles. Plus they love to deny them

no accident and hardly any rust anywhere, none on the birdcage, they have all the paperwork for all the work done to it as well as the bill of sales and all matching numbers

I know it's a stupid question but did you confirm it's an L82? Anyone can put those badges on it. Should be a 6 in fifth position of the VIN.

Beautiful Vette, you are going to love it...! I wish you many years of trouble free driving which should be the case for a 40,000 mile Vette...

have fun with the car!

no on the extended warranty, all you have to do is read the fine print and see what it does not cover, how to make a claim, how to get an estimate on a claim, what the deductible is, show proof of professional service.....
many of these do not even have a customer service phone number and if they do, then you will be on hold for hours at a time. they are setup to frustrate you and make you give up after they get your money up front.
if you do have a claim, then they have to agree to the estimate, so you have to get a valid ( probably multiple) estimate, then they will take weeks to decide on the claim while your car is down....
oh, and by the way, you won't even get the fine print until they send you the policy weeks after you buy the policy...

Like others have recommended, do not purchase the extended warranty. They are large profit generators for the people selling them. Most shops will not accept them, so you have to pay for the repair and submit a claim. Then the company may deny the claim or reimburse you for less than the full amount.

The car looks great, but I would have someone knowledgeable inspect the car mechanically, for any body repairs, to verify for matching numbers confirming that it is an original L82.

Also check the date of the tires. I believe they were last produced in about 2008 which makes them at least 11 years old. If they are over 10 yers old I would replace them.

Looks like a great car, I once had a new 1980 L82, I ordered the car 11/21/79 and didn't get the car until May of 1980. The ran many of the L82 cars down the line at the same time. My intake manifold had to be replaced before I took delivery due to porosity in the aluminum. I was working at Rochester Products Division (QuadraJet) Plant at the time and yes the carburetors were beginning to get complicated. They used what is called closed loop (early computer control). I used a guy up in New Jersey to rebuild the Holley off my '64 C2 (327 365hp). We got talking and he bought the original flow test machines and mechanical setters from RPD when they stopped making carburetors. He would be a good guy to consider for QuadraJet work if needed.
