Sill protector

Sill protector
Has anyone used that clear sill protector to keep your sills from getting scratched as you go in and out of the car. Also for those that have it, are you happy with it or is it cheap looking? I know the answer is really just lift your legs upon entry and exit. Thanks

I bought them for my vette a couple of years ago. They were cheaply made, fit poorly and were not secure. Appeared the protectors would exacerbate potential for scratches by causing them. Took them off immediately and threw in the trash.
Much better option for sill protection is XPEL. Easy to install a small strip.

Melting Slicks
There have been reports here of people using them and over time the vibration/rubbing causes issues.
Two best options seem to be:
1) Xpel or some clear film over them to protect (especially if you're already doing that to other parts of the car)
2) Don't worry much about them, they are very cheap and easy to replace...so just do that when they need it. Kind of consider it a wear part.
I was already doing Xpel and it covers more than just the plate itself, so it was a good option for me.

I use the sill protectors on my car but first did cover the area with Xpel. I have not found the protectors to be cheaply made or move around on the sill area. I had a similar product on my C5 and it kept the sill area looking good.

They will scratch your sills and sill plates, besides being ugly.

I'm in a different camp here. I had them on my C6, my base C7, and now my Grand Sport without any instances of scratching. However, I do remove them, and clean them along with the door sill every time I wash the car, so that may be the reason. They aren't the prettiest things in the world, but they work foe me, and can be easily removed when you're at a car meet.

I had the plastic sill protectors on since the car was new. I have not noticed them scratching the paint underneath.
That being said, they have done their job. They are pretty scratch up especially on my wife's side. Also cracked in a couple of the corners. Time for a new set. I think that is ok that they periodically need to be replaced.

Yeah, I've had them since shortly after I got my '18. I painted them black since I couldn't stand the "billboards" the geniuses at GM installed on my otherwise all black car.
Btw, to clarify... these fit well and securely. Also, they are easily installed and removed. Finally, I don't care what they may or may not do to the crappola under them, if anything.
And, to note, the gray piece aft of the cover is a pad to put my hand on when I get out... otherwise it is seriously slick when wet.

Hi Kevin, can you clarify something for me. When you mention "both my plastic sills(not covers) were scratched to hell" Aren't the plastic sills "the covers"?

You want them, you can have them.....
Hated them. Every time I washed the car water (and fine sand) stayed under them. It resulted in the painted door sills being permanently scratched. And because they're held in place with aggressive form of Velcro, the carpeting got "pulls" when removing the protectors where they were attached.
.Anyone who wants mine can have them for just the cost of shipping them to you. PM me.
