Default Warranty

GM / Chevrolet wants me to keep buying Corvettes, I’m on my fourth yet the warranty is much less than a
new Caddy. Why are they screwing us on an expensive car by giving us less warranty than the Caddy?

It is the same on a Buick - 4 yrs/50K miles B2B. My only guess is the Caddy and Buick brands are considered premium models where Chevy is a step down.

Like Vetteman said, Buick carries the same warranty as Cadillac, reason is that they are competing against some other luxury brands like BMW and Benz who offer a 4 yr/50k warranty as well.

Correct or at least this is what GM wants consumers to think. A 4/50 warranty is typical for most European brands and VW now offers a 6/72 B2B.

General Motors has launched a true extended bumper-to-bumper warranty program in the U.S....at extra cost. It may be worth it for some.

I look on it as a bargain. you PAY for Buicks and Caddy's warranty in the purchase price of those cars. When, if, i need protection beyond the magical 3/36, i can get this;

Chevrolet Protection Plan (Platinum)
72 months 48,000 miles = $790 with $100 deductible
$950 with $0 deductible

84/56000 $1190 $100 deductible
$1490 $0 deductible

Term is from date of Protection Plan purchase,Mileage is on top of current mileage.
So for $1200 i can get 36 mos + 84 mos and 36k + 56k eg 10 years and 92k miles btb for my vette. but if i trade before 3/36k, i save the $1200. Does GM refund the unused portion of the 4/50k unused on a caddy/ Buick sale?

No the 4/50 is just like the 3/36. It is factored into the MSRP. No pro rata refund.

Where did this quote from? I’m in the market now.

Because you can't buy a caddy at the same kind of discount. I know...I have been buying new Cadillacs since 1977. Currently a 2016 CTS4 no where near the discount of my 2016 vert.... Sure, the CTS4 MSRP was only $58,000 and the C7 was $80,200. Discount was no where near the 7's percentage of MSRP. You pay one way or the other

Warranty costs are part of the cost of doing business. Longer warranty = higher costs. Higher costs = higher MSRP, all other things being equal. Caddy/Buick people are paying for it, it just isn't a separate line item like buying an aftermarket extended "warranty" is.

Same goes for the VW 6/72 mentioned in an earlier post although they still have a fair amount of negative press to overcome related to the diesel fiasco.

I'd like to know where you got this quote too. I'm a year too soon to buy it but would if I knew b2b changes or price increases were coming.

I found this in regards to the platinum plan. You don't get to add the platinum plan to the original bnb. If you buy an 84 month contract in expires 84 months from the in service date. Same for the miles.

QUOTE: Vehicle's In-Service Date and expiration mileage is reached when the Vehicle's odometer reaches the mileage
indicated in Term Miles on the Registration Page, whichever occurs first. If the Vehicle In-Service Date box is blank on Your Registration Page, expiration is measured in time from January 1st of the Vehicle's model year and expiration mileage is reached when the Vehicle's odometer reaches the mileage indicated in Term Miles on the Registration Page, whichever occurs first. END QUOTE

I stand corrected. I spoke with someone that sells the GMEPP and you DO add the mileage and months from the day you buy it. For example, if my mileage is 20K and I purchase a 48,000 mile warranty, it will expire at 68,000 miles. Same for the months.
