Z06 base or Z07+girodisc for street/track
Alright. I'm soon to be in the market for a used 2017 Z. Prices are about 62k for Z06 and 70k with z07 package with <10k miles.
I know I would immediately sell CCB rotors and go with girodiscs (any other options yet? Or brake pads rather than Raybestos?).
My question is, z07 worth it? Is it that much faster? Would the 1 inch bigger brakes be that much better? I do want comp seats and those are about impossible to find without z07.
Tires don't matter as I'd be running 315/335 scrubs or nt01s no matter what.
What is a basically new CCB rotors going for? (To recoup costs)
I currently have a z51 running 550 wheel HP, Z06 suspension, 295/305 r compounds, so I'm not very far off a base Z06 in terms of capability. So maybe I wouldn't be happy with just that?

i have a non z07 car and i love it, no complaints. I cant justify the money on the z07 cars personally, and I drive pretty darn hard.
Resale, when you go to sell it, the z07 wont hold that much extra value. I would not sell off the CBB if you do get a z07, i would put them on the shelf for when you do decide to sell it, put them back on.

Even if his power level is about what a stock z06 makes, he still doesn't have a z06.
Same with us who mod and have the same power levels of a zr1. Which is great, but it's no zr1.
He could get a z06 and still have some warranty left, and make more power (if he gets the manual) than his z51. Warranty is a big deal. He has none with his car. And it's a narrow body car lol.
Go Z man. You're always in this section anyway so i know you want one lol

I think you could track down a 2018 with zero percent and great rebates, and buy it brand new next month. The interest alone to zero percent, will bring the payments almost neck and neck with the used cars and their higher interest rates.... and thats what is paid at the end of the day... payments times 72 months.
And if you have cash, keep it in your pocket, put zero money down, and get gap insurance. If you wreck the car, you take no financial loss, gap insurance covers everything and zero percent loan is free money.

That's what it needs to be to make up the 3% I can get with my credit union.
anyhow. Can we get back on topic here. I've made up my mind on buying a Z, I am just asking for opinion on z07 package or not.

96 to 75 is doable on the new cars. I did a little better on my new 16 with zero percent. Sorry to take you off topic, but the warranty and new car, new tires, new brakes, newer year for resale later, its all worth every extra penny.

As far as brakes the Z06 is a solid setup once you replace the rotor rings. The Giro 'carbon to steel' conversion is good but still puts you in a one choice only rotor and the same pad shape the Z06 uses anyway.
I'd want to sell ALL the CCM brakes and go to the Z06 brakes.
There are other factors though and getting one that has the cooling and tune settled is important. There may be some other things the Z07 has.
GL - buying a car is fun.

And you're saying you'd get rid of the setup entirely and go down to Z06 setup? And lose the 1" larger rotors to get better options?
Okay, without looking at tires. Z07 =
Seats (more than likely from the used inventory I've found)
1" larger rotors
Stiffer springs, sway bar bushings, slightly different shock valving and tune
Not many z07s for sale out there and there are showing up about 12-15k more than z06s with the same interior.

(Many of the Brembo 6 piston OEM calipers use a 'similar' pad shape - the CCM one is taller than the Z06 one but the same basic pad shape)
CCM brakes are sized up about 25% from the iron counterpart (like an AL connection rod vs a steel one) So if you make an iron rotor the size of a CCM one it is way heavy. So GDisc being a smart company makes the conversion rotor that has the outer diameter of the CCM to fit the caliper correctly but they shrink the annulus to keep the weight in check.
It's only complicated to explain in a short post. A few diagrams are all that is needed to show it.
The Z06 brakes are pretty good. The GM rotor rings are a bit suspect but I did a conversion on a Z51 and the GM rotors/calipers were damn cheap on EBay.

The ceramic rotors and pads need to be 25% bigger to do the same thing as the iron equivalent.
You'll see that in all of the CCM cars out there. The ceramic version is 25% bigger to have similar capacity.
So putting an iron rotor in a CCM size = lots of iron/heavy

That's what I did, too, which makes sense for heavy track use. Z07 comes for better electronics calibrations for stickier tires, as well as stiffer springs. These are very hard to replicate on a Z06.

This is a good exercise. Iron rotors for conversion are about $2400 for the 4. Pads get interesting:
Z07 iron fronts use the same pads as Z06.
Z07 iron rears use the same pads as z51 fronts (I just happen to have brand new xp10s, and 1521s).
Selling the stock carbon rotors likely will recoup the entire cost.
The larger rotors and pads should last longer. Ring replacements are only about $100 more per pair than the Z06 ring replacements , either girodisc or DBA. I don't think we will have to worry about replacing rotor rings from what I've learned on the much smaller z51 rotors (nowhere near minimum thickness after 4 sets of pads, replaced due to vibration, likely could have resurfaced but $200 a pair is nothing).
The other point of concern is, are 15.5 rotors too big for 18" wheels in terms of cooling? With rotors so close to the barrel, will it block flow out the rotors? Enough to negate the extra inch of force?
