Well hell....
Forgot to secure my roof and while I was headed to the gym, it flew off. Luckily nobody was behind me. It's all scratched up and I can't decide whether to have it re-painted or buy a transparent panel and have the stripe put on. My car is a GS w/ the Heritage Package.
Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear that. If it was mine I would have it repainted. That's just me though. I don't think a transparent top with a stripe on it looks proper. Maybe your insurance will cover it. Some insurance companies won't raise your rates. Check into that first. Come to think of it, it also depends on your deductible.

That sucks, one would think we can put a man on the moon but Chevy cannot design a system to alert one when the top is not secured.... I'd get it repaired/repainted.

Exactly! Why can't it be like the trunk and doors? It should warn you that it is not latched or closed properly. This will continue to happen from time to time.

It already has that motion alarm deactivation switch in there when top is off. you think it could have a "dismiss" icon in cluster when it sense that pins have been put back in the holes. like door hood orntrunk open.
So dumb. I bet C8 finally gets it.

you didn't mention if there was any metal damage ie crunched corners? I would paint and if there a spat of good weather you don't even have to leave the whole car!

I bought the Flying Roofs warning tag from a vendor, though you can easily make one yourself. The tag is invisible when tucked behind the handle, but hangs down in front of your face when the handle is not latched. After taking the pictures, I cut off the excess Velcro sticking up from the handle in the second picture.
I've never lost a roof or landed gear-up in an airplane or shot a hole in the wall with a firearm, but I understand that all of those things could happen and I give myself every opportunity to avoid them.

Why do we keep relying on the car to tell us what to do? Blind stop detectors, lane drift detectors, auto braking, auto headlights, door chimes, seatbelt chimes, TPMS, etc. This is why the corvette now weighs a whopping 3400lbs. My composite body, aluminum frame corvette should not weigh the same as my all steel unibody mustang. What ever happened to people actually paying attention to driving and their vehicle?
