Default 4+3 cooler line boss replacement

Hey All,

The inverted flare on the intermittent cooler line on my 4+3 is leaking a substantial amount. Not sure of the history as i just bought the car, but i know the transmission has been replaced. I'm sure it's been leaking like this since the transmission was installed.

Anyways, I removed the line and the bosses and found that the bosses are badly damaged and cannot create a good seal to the flared line, hence the leak.

I need to replace the bosses, but i'm unable to find out exactly what this part is. I've taken it to two hydraulic shops and neither shop could find something that fit up right.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I would post a wanted ad in the parts forum. There has to be plenty of 4+3 parts trannies around.

It may come to that. I'd be really surprised if it really is that unique of a part though. One would think it would be an off the shelf fitting.

Does anyone know of a part catalog where I could look up the part number? I have the gm service manual but it doesn't get into any specifics on the part. Just defines it.

Very helpful info.

The thread pitch in the aluminum block is the same as 1/4" standard pipe thread. At one of the hydraulic shops, I threaded a fitting a good ways in but it was tapered so I wasn't going to crank it in and mess up the threads.

I do actually think it's 45 degree. Even if it isn't, it would totally work for the application.

The oring configuration would be preferred since it seals up under low torque. I wouldn't want to crank a fitting into that aluminum too hard, but it may come to that too. Do you think an npt fitting with maybe some Teflon tape would seal up alright?

Yeah I think it's 3/8 female inverted flare to 1/4 male orb, but no luck in searching

Thanks for the help so far, fellas

Unfortunately it is a different size fitting. Good idea though.

I may try to make some mess of adapters and just start with 1/4 orb. It's a shame they use such uncommon components. Maybe I can find the parts used in better shape than what I have. This doesn't seem to be too common of an issue.

Okay i think I know what I'm going to do.

I found a 1/4 male ORB to -3an male. Then I'm going to just run a short -3an hose in place of the hard line.

I'll order the parts tomorrow if I don't come up with a better idea. Figure it's a relatively low risk attempt and should hold up and look clean.

Okay parts ordered. I'll post some pics when it's done.

For anyone else who may be looking, I had the values wrong. These sizes are measured from outside thread diameter, not inside like is done on pipe thread, which was the source of my confusion.

The bosses are -6 ORB male fittings. I decided to go with -4 an fittings and a flexible line to connect.
