Anybody get rock chips on the hood?
I'm getting my car re-wrapped in about a week. It had been wrapped in Xpel and Suntek from the A pillars to the front bumper. All of it was removed recently.
Insurance will cover some of the redo. I'm contemplating NOT getting the hood and fenders wrapped again...just the bumper. This is only due to unexpected $ constraints at the moment.
Just wondering if anyone is getting dings on the hood or front fenders from the road.

I had the entire front end wrapped and I have seen or heard rocks and other crap hit the front end so much I lost count. Only one was bad enough to rip through the clear bra.

Got a nasty one last Thursday right next to the headlight. Trying to build it up with touch up paint a little at a time. I did have the front covered with Xpel. Oh well, it happens.

my front bumper was recently repainted. (ins claim work). I've been trying to drive carefully to not get any new rock chips
washed her today.... . I see a few small ones.
Thought about wet sanding a little. They seem pretty minor but would definitely show through the film.
You guys ever wet sand a minor rock chip out?

I don't have any chips above the bonnet vent to the windshield. I have clear a clear bra PPF on the front facia up to the top of the bonnet vent. I have a few little mars and nicks on the clear bra, but nothing above or on the fenders. Nothing has gone through the PPF to the paint. 98,500 miles on the car.

i only get PPF to the bottom of the hood.. it worked on my last one and I plan on doing the same on this one.. Doing the paint correction and ceramic this weekend and getting PPF and Tint next friday...
Last night I went through and painted every chip I could find before I hit it with paint correction and will hopefully blend everything in... We will see..

No No No, unless you really know what you’re doing. Better to trim any high spots, and use Dr Color-chip, but it does take a good amount of patience.

No rock chips on the hood of my C7 (14k miles) or the C6 (8k miles) so far but I suppose it's just a matter of time. I've got the front bumper, rockers, and mirrors covered with XPel. Couple places where the ppf has not self-healed on the lower part of the bumper so there is some debris out there but it hasn't apparently been above the bumper.
I don't follow trucks or larger vehicles too closely. Dump trucks are absolutely the worst so best to stay way behind those or get over a few lanes if possible.

OP. Why did you remove the wrap? Accident? Did the rocks break through the Xpel? My Xpel has stood up well over 3 years.

I'm still waiting to spot my first stone chip, I've gone 11,000 miles and 17 months without one so far and I drive on the highway more often than in the city too.

My car had Xpel installed on the entire front end, including the full hood. Have gotten a couple of chips in the film on the front fascia, but none on the hood.
And from what I was told, PPF can be installed right away on a new car.

The good thing about Xpel is you can do a little now, and when budget allows you can add more. I had originally thought I would just get the bumper, but remembered the first chip I got on mu previous '16 C7 was right on the front end of the hood. So, I wrapped the entire front, fenders included. With my luck I would get a rock chip on the very part I didn't cover.

Why was my wrap removed:
front bumper...someone pulled into me in a parking lot and flexed the bumper enough to spiderweb the paint UNDER the film. The Xpel itself was NOT damaged which says a lot about it.
Had tje film removed and refinished tje whole front bumper. My installer says wait 30 days to re-install
as for the rest of the film:
in another thread of mine, my driver door was damaged and the. Replaced. To blend the paint of drovers sode they removed the film from the left front fender. The film on the hood didn’t look as good anymore due to it loving outside for the first 2years of ownership and not being able to always keep her clean
now...it’s in a garage most of the time. Figured I’d get ALL new film since two panals are covered by insurance. 👍🏻
