Grand Sport brake duct vinyl?
Just recently purchased a 2019 grand sport and while washing it I noticed these what appear to be vinyl body cover patches on the rear brake duct, anyone have a clue what the deal is as I did not notice these on my 2018 z06

Yes, just added protection. I'd sure leave it unless it yellows in the future then easy enough to peel off and remove excess adhesive residue with the below.

If that protective film ever turns yellow or gets dinged up with rock chips, just have it removed and reinstall another piece of film in its place. It’s nice to have it on the car.

They have been on the cars for several years. My 15 Z06 had them before I had Expel put on. The strips had to be removed for the Expel application. They are located in the high impact areas where debris thrown from the front wheels hits most often. The debris leaves thousands of almost microscopic nicks in the clear coat that eventually makes the clear coat look cloudy. The only way to avoid the issue is to cover the places where the impacts occur or not drive the car. The problem with the GM supplied covering is the patches are far to small.

I removed that heavy GM plastic from my 2014 and then my Grand Sport. t will discolor on the edges. There is a wrong way and right way to remove. If you remove the wrong way even that 3m adhesive remover I use for a lot of things won't take it off with out a lot of work! For a 6 inch long strip on my 2014 where I did it wrong it took 20 minutes. On the 2nd side of my 2014 it took less than 5 minutes because the adhesive came off with the plastic!
Here is a pic/text PDF of what I did: http://netwelding.com/Rocker_Panel_Film.pdf Below is one of the pics.
PS: Since after installing side skirts on my 2014 all dings from front wheel rocks stopped (I live in a rural area, lots of those) I ordered the Stage 2 aero option for the Grand Sport. In two years I have no dings on the rockers or the rear brake ducts which some say are an issue and why GM put that small amount of heavy "plastic wrap!"

As others have stated, this is an area that needs to be protected. My detailer removed the limited coverage and yellow tinted GM supplied protection before wrapping most of my car in Suntek Ultra PPF. You don't even notice its there.
