Learn to brake better? I think stabbing the pedal might have something to do with it. I once took a ride with Sir Jackie Stewart, you seriously couldn't tell when he started to brake or use the gas. VERY smooth... Yet he braked HARD... He said, apply the brakes and gas gently, then give it the beans.

i understand that< in autocross where every hundredth of a second counts you brake late and hard. the run is over in 1 minute im not saving tires or brakes for a 20 minute run what im doing is fighting for every second ! im sure you know in autocross there is no coasting your either on the gas hard or braking hard. you would be surprised how many autocrossers and track rats have this problem> if you google it their are dozens of posts on it > im sure someone is going to be able to reprogram the ABS sooner or later . i dont know how to post this past weekends event of my mishap at ponoco but your welcome to watch it and post it if you can > facebook is david savage , swoyersville pa, lion brewery thanks its the first video on my page , im going from 88 mph to standing on brakes that are only giving me 30% ??

Sorry I have no answer, but maybe you can educate me on autocross or what you are experiencing. If I understand, you are at WOT and then hit the brakes to make it around the course. At this point the driving mode senses the change in inertia and changes to Ice Mode? What mode are you in when autocrossing before it changes? Seems to me in Track mode or higher it should never change. This is the first time I've heard of your problem. Hopefully somebody does have your answer.

Thanks for an understanding of why this is important to you! Just read the Tadge answer, since you referenced. Didn't sound like he "skated the issue," just explained the complexity of the ABS re various "normal" (and even tracking) needs, even in PTM.

Sounds like in your case (for Autocrossing) you'd be best to eliminate ABS? Can't a "tuner" do that?

Perhaps a dumb question, but even if it trips a CEL can you "unplug the ABS" or will the car not operate?

Autocross? Learn to left foot brake if every tenth is THAT important, so you can save the tenth of a second from transitioning to the brake pedal, and avoid the SECONDS you壇 lose by stabbing at the brakes.

99% of a car痴 performance problems can be solved by fixing the nit behind the wheel.

Reprogramming of the ABS won't be done any time soon unless one of the engineers that worked on the original calibrations decides to retire and offer their services to retune the ABS. Retuning the ABS isn't as simple as making some adjustments in a table like engine tuners do. There are a lot of variables that have to be worked with to make sure the ABS remains safe. If you want to have a resolution to your problem sometime during your lifetime I suggest you try braking differently (a quick but soft initial application of brakes followed by swiftly increasing force on the pedal. That way you don't get the initial slam on the pedal but are able to apply full force within milliseconds.

thats exactly what im asking in this thread , someone who can reprogram my ABS , im sure someone will figure this out and make $500 or 1K for program . did you happen to go to my facebook page and see me blow off the track ? david savage , swoyersville pa. lion brewery - thanks

thanks bill i've always respect your opinion, i have been autocrossing since 1990 and now at 58 years old i need to change my braking ( wish me luck) sad thing is i had 11 corvetts before my c7's and never had a iceing issue !! as you know corvettes are crashing because of this , sooner or later someone will get killed and it will be on the PDR and then TADGE will fix it ! thanks again for your time and im surprised how few people know of C7 ice mode. i've never experienced either on a corvette club ice cream run !

thanks ( the hack) for your input , did you happen to watch the video on my facebook? its not fun and someday it will happen on the street to someone who gets hurt , and yes i am a nut behind the wheel but thats no excuse for ice mode on a dry day ! thanks again

Me too.

I initially thought OP was talking about when the DIC tells you to be careful because ice on the roads is possible.

I think its just an odd term for "ABS activated" (maybe regional?). I've been in Corvettes for 30 years (yes in auto-x too) and this is the first I've heard ABS activation called "Ice mode"

There have been a few threads on this and i haven't seen a solution you're looking for. Im guessing there arent many that drive to the precision you and a handlefull of other folks do to kick in ice mode. Maybe a vendor will step up to the plate if others are noisey on this.

What tires are you running for auto cross? Do you have a more aggressive brake pad?

While "ice mode" is 90% driver induced, changing tire sizes definitely has a negative impact on how sensitive the car is to pounding on the brake pedal. As an avid auto crosser that usually does very well, I've worked with a lot of people on changing their braking habits in modern cars. Aside from aftermarket (Bosch Motorsport) ABS systems, very little can be done to the stock system to reduce ice mode.

First I’ve heard of it called Ice Mode also. But then again, I’ve never had my ABS come on that I know of.
