Default Which premium gas is preferred?

Just joined Costco. Not for the gas but was wondering the quality of their gas product. I'm a firm BP or Shell purchaser. However at Costco prices on gas are way cheaper. My Dad's voice kicks in with "you get what you pay for" advice. Soooo ! Whats the consensus on your choice of gas. What's in your wallet?

I only put Top Tier gas in the Vette. I want all the performance I can get, no compromises. While I also use Top Tier gas in our Lexus, I'm not as particular with those vehicles and I'll put in any brand if I'm pressed for time.
No compromise with the Corvette.

Yes to Top Tier, which Costco is.

There is a ton of gas threads on the forum for the OPs reading enjoyment. To summarize: All the base gas comes from the same place, and its just the additive package that makes it different from brand to brand. Costco is unique in that they add their package at the pumps and not when the truck is being filled like most places, but its good stuff.

Stick with Top Tier for the most part (occasional fill ups of non top tier is fine) and get whatever is most convenient/cheapest. Top Tier standards require extra cleaners (and paying the fee), but skipping it occasionally doesn't compromise performance, and they'll do their job the next time.

Any Top Tier fuel. Ask at Costco if they sell a Top Tier Fuel. I do not see them on the list but I don't know who makes their gas. It depends upon the refiner not the retailer.

You can clearly see that Costco is a certified top tier gasoline in both USA and Canada. From the official Top Tier site:

Any issues with Costco gas. I used to use it in my 2010 Nissan 370Z. At times it would run rough at idle. However that was in 2014. At times GasBuddy would show Costco at Top Tier and other times not so. Maybe they have now changed to a more permanent procedure of using Top Tier additives all the time.

Costco is one of those retailers where you can't say the price is a reflection of the quality, as when it comes to their gasoline (and a lot of the things they sell in store) they don't mark it up very much at all, they make most of their money on the membership fees. So that's how they can afford to price their gasoline so super low, even though it's still very high quality. They want to draw you into their store and spend $300 on things you don't really need (who really needs 20 pounds of mayonnaise?)

Don't remember exactly, but 2014 was probably towards the end of the rollout, so very possible they weren't all Top Tier at the time. As I noted earlier, Costco adds their package at the "station" so there was some significant work at each location to add the additive tank and the equipment to mix it with the fuel.

The lines and how few locations Costco has aren’t worth the savings. My car or truck don’t run well on Arco. I only use Shell and with their FuelRewards program and cash back by using my Costco credit card I’m getting the best gas as inexpensively and conveniently as possible.

Chevron with Techron here. Unfortunately, in Arizona the highest octane we can get is 91.

No.

Top Tier is standard defined my a bunch of auto manufacturers who realized the federal minimum required additive package might not be enough, particularly for direct injection cars. It is not related to octane.

Good to know. I just put 93 octane fuel in my Vette (that I just bought) so should I just go to a Shell Station for fuel? How do you know if a gas station has a top tier fuel? I usually go to Krogers but may switch to Shell.

I think there is a AAA app that shows which stations are top tier. Often they will display some Top Tier branding on the pump, but not always.

The list of brands was posted earlier in the thread as well: https://toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/

Plus if you have a Costco credit card you get 4% off the price of the gas. That's around 10 cents per gallon!!!
