Default L88 high rise hood options

Whats the cheapest place to get a L88 high rise hood? So far I found one at Ecklers for $652 which is 4" high rise. Is there anywhere else I can check that isn't too pricey? Thanks!!

can you do glass work? scoop itself is under 100 bucks. you already have a hood. and i assume it fits your car. some new hoods don't fit so well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ZL1-L88-Cam...ss!19061!US!-1 cheaper than 600 is used. and it will be used aftermarket.

cheap hoods are usualy not quality hoods and you will spend as much or more than a good hood making it fit correctly. What you dont see is ecklers has like a 2 month waiting period for their hood at least the did when I tried to order mine. IPick your poison. http://glasstek.com/products/chevrolet/corvette/ . have one of their hoods and it fits and looks great only issue is it doesnt have the upper mounting holes for the 78-82 hood support.

One other option would be, "good ol Ebay." I see used ones on there once in awhile at reasonable prices. However, the seller usually wants you to come and get it.

Shipping would be a challenge, but at least you would know its not a knock-off, its quality original and it will fit correctly Then have it color matched to yours.

Wait until you see how much it is to ship a hood!

I saw a few on ebay ranging from 600-900, no idea how much shipping would be. I don't know how to glass so I would have to take it to a shop and have them do it if I were to just add the high rise centre portion. I was initially going to go with a long hood but now I think i'll go with a short hood and keep the wiper door.

I'm hoping freight shipping isn't too pricey.....I don't think it can be much more than having 35" mudders with rims shipped lol.

When I bought my hood Glasstek said it would cost 100 or 150 to ship, I bought their hood from ebay the tamaraz seller for 650 including shipping. If I had to do it over again I would just buy right from glasstek.

I took a look at the glasstek website, do they only make one style of hood? all I saw was 5" cowl hood, that would be the hood with the large rectangular scoop in the centre that gets taller as it goes towards the windshield right?

For the 68-72 it appears they only have the cowl hood, if you wanted to do a long hood you might be able to use one of the 73-82 options.

Would that be a direct fit or would it require modification to fit a 68?

I got the Eckler's one for my 68 (long version). It wasn't bad, but I will need to get some fit work done when I paint the whole car this fall.
Keep in mind that you're going to need to get it prepped and painted too, so that pretty much doubles the cost (at least). Based on that, it isn't the worst idea to find a fiberglass place that will install just the scoop for you (depending on the hood you have now). You will avoid the issue of having to get it fit to the car. However if you're painting the whole car eventually, get the whole hood.

That hood looks really good! I currently have the 427 hood but the air cleaner still hits it with the new intake and carb setup. The paint on my car is terrible so it'll definitely be painted soon. Is there any significant mods that need to be done if I get the long hood to cover the wiper door? or is it as simple as just removing the wiper door? How was the fit when you first installed it?

Super easy. Just pull the door off.
Those pictures are without the hardware on. It sits just s little high with it, so it just needs adjusting when I get the car all done. It looks really cool from inside the car. This big (but not too big) bitchin bump in the middle.

If you zoom in you can see that it sits a little high.

Shipping is usually $100 - $150.00 in U.S., depending on where you are. Hoods are a freight item and are shipped by semi truck.

Wow, prices are slightly higher than when I got mine....(around $110).......but Ohio is closer to them than Seattle.

Getting the mules to backpack it over the Rockies adds cost.

Go Greyhound for hoods. Did it a couple years ago for 60 bucks.

If I were you I would get the short hood. The long hood is really heavy. Look at the corners on the red car, they don't really flow into the body work. I had to do a lot of work on mine to get them to look OK but a close up reveals the corners don't match and the stock SS trim piece just won't fix things..

A member on the forum sold his hood to me. I don't remember shipping cost but it was quite pricey. The shipping company had to do a lot of custom packaging to get it to me unmolested.

Here's mine:
