15-50 5-50, or 0-40 Mobil one. I run 15-50 year round. I ran 15-50 in my forged LS 7 motors in my 09 Z with ARH LT with high flow cats and I 107,000 miles never had a cat failure

As long as it's warm I'd run the 15-50.

Why not just run what GM recommends?

This topic is asked a lot and the most people will do one the following scenarios. Since Mobil1 15W50 is cheaper and easier to find in stores, people use this for the track season and switch back to Mobil1 5W30 for street only/cooler months. I have a 2019Z which comes from the factory with Mobil1 0W40 Dexos2 ESP. It’s more expensive and I have to order it online, but GM says in the LT4 it can be used for both street and track use. This is what I use. The reason GM had recommended switching out the 15W50 after track use is to prevent damage to the catalytic converters from the extra phosphorus that is in the 15W50. The 0W40 ESP is low phosphorus and does not pose this problem.

Another topic that comes up is how much to fill the oil reservoir. GM recommends a 1/2 qt overfill for track use. I don’t bother with this. I completely drain the oil, fill with 9.5qts, and call it a day. After warming up the engine and checking the oil level per the owner’s manual recommendation, it puts my oil level at 3/4 of the way up the hashed area. This has worked for me without issue both on street and track.

Mike

Same here with 0w/40. Change oil in between events and just flushed my rear diff after my first event. Surprising amount of break-in ‘glitter’ in the rear diff. Castrol SRF brake fluid, Hawk DTC 60/70’s.......done. Going to VIR tomorrow. Numbers on, wheels next. Out bedding my pads now.

Good luck out there. Wish I was going to be there still waiting on my car to be built.

Wait. You change oil every event? That's overkill.

ESP 0w-40. In my '16 I had 3 cat replacements in 18 months running 15w-50 during track months and 5w-30 in the winter months (car doesn't move much then though).

Do you run any fuel additives?

I prefer 15-50 which is closer to a race oil with better protection and higher phosphorus and zinc especially if changing after each event, but I don't run very many events.

Possibly. I figure it's 1,000 miles per event with the back/forth to the event plus the 400 miles or so at high rpms and high track temps. It's good insurance at ~$50 (after M1 rebate) per change 3 to 4 times per year.

Wait, was it the 15w50 that ruined the cats?

Because i still use 5w30 although i change it every 6 months regardless of miles. Last oil run was i believe 3200 miles. I still changed it lol.

It's cheap and easy to do so why not? lol

I ran mine 15,000 miles and I'm guessing 8 or 10,000 were on the track and I used the 15w-50 on track and never had an issue with the cats. I always used ethanol free fuel and no additives on and off track.I also had the 100 octane tune.

Could you tell a diff with the 100 Oct tune?

Weird. I ran 15w-50 exclusively on my procharged z51 for some 30k miles and no problems.

Yes Bruno. I think it just applies to 15 & 16 z06's. If I remember correctly you got a 15. I'd do it for sure. I think they basically used the same tune that is being used in the current cars. Whatever it was made the car run better on the track. I think there were a lot of incremental steps that were made on all of the c7's. That, and the warranty, are the main reasons I ordered a 19. I actually like the velocity yellow I have a lot more than the race yellow I ordered.

I only use redline fuel cleaner twice a year and just now using klotz octane booster for the summer and summer only.

I mean if the cats fail at around 40k i don't care, because the car will be traded or sold by then lol.

So only for the next 2 years i care lol

I understand. Since I have a new one on order I will treat it the same way I did the old one. I'm just trying to figure out why some people have trouble with the cats and some don't.I want mine to last as long as possible.
