"GM, we have a problem!"
My ZR1 generated well above 104DB sound level back in April on a rather warm day for spring. As some know, tracks in the SE have noise restrictions well below that. My vehicle is all stock from GM. So:...
I spend $140K for the vehicle, put another $10K in Xpel and several coats of ceramic coat, had to buy another trailer (open), $10K, to allow clearance for the vehicle and another $10K for AP racing brakes all four corners, also exta wheels and tires for another $3K. I can't run the car on track without being black flagged. The car is not a DD.
GM performance needs to step up with an exhaust suitable for the car that will allow us to use the car as intended maintaining full warranty. At least this will give us the opportunity to use the car for the tiny fortune we have spent.

Don’t run at tracks where there are sound restrictions. Why would they have sound restrictions. It’s a racetrack people. Sounds like another situation where old people think they can tell other people what to do.

Also, its not the 'old people' driving this. its a combination of people who buy property near enough to hear noise, then are a$$hole enough to complain about noise, its local governments, and other groups who try to argue that noise pollution has environmental impact on wildlife etc. etc (which is measurably true, but FFS its not like racetracks are dotted everywhere.)
bottom line, like it or not, this is a fair issue.
A brand new car totally stock too loud for the known issue of sound limits at tracks really isnt a smart call by GM

Yeah but it sounds sooo good!
Maybe there's room for bullet mufflers in the x-pipe, if not the answer seems to be the 90* tip extensions. I understand the issue here but who would have ever thought there'd be complaints because a Corvette is too loud!

Maybe time for another small fortune for Burns stainless mufflers incorporated into the stock system somehow?
That or those funny looking tips that make the car look like a Lemons Racer extraordinaire!!
Such a PITA. Sorry.

There are obviously some posting here that have no idea of what the issue is because they don't have one or they never intend to take it to the track. The vehicle is marketed as track prepared; downforce, cooled and appropriated braking. Bottom line is you can't use it on the track except under perfect atmospheric conditions. The engineers did so well at designing the vehicle overall and, yet, let this obvious problem slip bye.
If GM Performance won't step up to the plate with an alternative exhause perhaps Corsa or some other aftermarket vendor can offer one that GM will allow while maintaining the warranty.
Ha! Corsa does. Well, got to call and see about the actual Db level and if there are different levels offered. I do have their system on my '96 and it works very well.

I thought the same thing. Can't you just set exhaust sounds in settings menu to a quieter setting like Sport without impacting the Track mode for suspension and related settings for traction control?

When full throttle is applied the engine has to have more unrestricted exhaust. It has to have it. That is why I mentioned perhaps someone, aftermarket if GM Performance won't step up, will offer one that can carry GM's warranty.

“Laguna pipes” are your least expensive option. That’s what I’ve gone with. They aren’t pretty but who cares. You can opt to lift where the microphones are too if you want.

I thought I saw a thread that GM is flashing the ECU as a recall because the flames out of the exhaust is melting the paint on the rear bumper...
I hope we don't get our ZR1's detuned because of db levels and flames out of the exhaust!!
Sigh...I knew buying this car was too good to be true.

There is a reasonable complaint here but I wouldn’t think the issue is even on GMs radar screen. A loud exhaust will sell more cars then keeping it relatively quiet to adhere to sound restrictions that don’t exist everywhere. It’s unfortunate that your local track has this issue and you will have to take measures to keep your car “legal” however you are definitely in the minority when compared to all owners.
To my knowledge, all exhaust settings are fine at WOT even on track with the exception of “Stealth”. That is the only mode I’ve seen with a warning against track driving.

track all mine. my zl1 1le with the borla x pipe and corsa sport axle back did not upset the sound meter but when checked on my iPhone is over 104db from 50 feet away but i love it
