I've been using 32gb SD cards in my 2016 c7 z06 performance data recorder with no problems. I bought a few 64gb SD cards for my new C8 Z51 with PDR and they work fine but I tried one in the c7 and it didn't work. Is 32gb the max size for the c7 PDR?
Also will the maps files from the c7 work on the c8 pdr? I could try it and find out but I thought I might ask someone might know the answer or be looking for it in the future.
C7 PDR SD cards must be formatted FAT32. This is typical for 32 gb and smaller. You will need to use a 3rd party utility for formatting larger SD cards to Fat32. (C8 SD cards require exFat format which is typical for larger than 32 gb cards).
By the way, 32 GB is good for 11+ hours recording in your C7. Just be sure to Stop / Start every 90 minutes due to file size limits.
Ron hit the nail on teh head, you can run a 128gb as long as it is formatted in FAT32. Windows natively can only format up to a 32gb in FAT32, after that you will need to use 3rd party software to do it.
ok makes sense. I just inserted the card and planned to use the pdr to format it but the c7 pdr didn't recognize the card.
Was also asking if the map files I made of my local track on the 2016 c7 pdr will work on the c8 pdr or if I have to make new map files for the c8 or not. no big deal either way but it would be nice to use the same map files so I can compair lap times between the two cars with the same file.
Mark a Start / Finish line at the same spot in both the C7 and C8. Open each file with Notepad and look at the structure. If the files look similar and have the coordinates written the same way, then you have a probable answer.

?Already formatted in FAT32. Because my problem is finding a way to format in FAT32. Win11 only seems to format in exFAT - not useful in a C7.
Google "fat32 format utility" and you will get several choices and YouTube step by step procedures. I played around with several utilities on a 1 TB sd card - until the cheap sd card failed. Note that a 32 gb sd card holds over 11 hr of recordings - so I just carry a couple 32 gb sd cards. If I have recordings I want to keep / transfer to PC I just switch SD cards until I get home or just switch SD card daily...
Note that there is a file size limit (does not matter how big the sd card is) that is just a bit over 1 hour of recording. If you hit the file size limit recording will stop without any message. So - if you are using the PDR as a dash cam, be sure to stop, then start recording every hour.
Note also that C7 PDR does NOT overwrite old files - when the SD card is full recording will just stop. If you try to start recording with a full SD card you WILL get a message. The C7 PDR does not format the SD card either.
Also - don't risk your valuable or irreplaceable data to a cheap SD card... Stay with a name brand.

Got a pair of Samsung 256 GB disks. Then I downloaded AEMOI (I think that’s how you spell it) and formatted each as FAT32. Came out great. Now I run one and keep the other in reserve. At some point I will reformat the full one while using the secondary one, so have 2 cards always available.
Thank you all for the great steer. I got what I was looking for.
Folks,
I know this old, but i found my old 512GB when I recorded back in 2020 in my 2016 C7 Z06. Sandisk Extreme Pro drive that works just fine. I thought I shared this years ago, but I was going to try the 1TB version but I sold the car at the end of 2020 and the worst mistake I ever did. but that's another story. I'd add the 1TB picture, it is a faster drive, but the 512GB 95mb/s has no issues keeping up with the recorder.

Again, here are the requirements from the owner's manual. The card pictured above meets the Class 10 requirement (symbol C with a 10 inside). I think U3 is even faster. Remember, the C7 is 2014 or older technology.
The PDR records video, audio, and
vehicle data. This data is stored on
a removable SD card in the
glove box.
The recorded data is not stored
anywhere else and is only
accessible from the SD card.
To begin, insert a FAT32 formatted
SD card, Class 10 required, 8, 16,
or 32 GB recommended, into the
glove box SD card reader.

Ron,
Indeed, those early warnings for those storage sizes make perfect sense back in 2014. And with old tech, anything faster than recommended would end up a waste since old hardware (recorder) wouldn't take advantage of the faster speeds of the new drives. I wonder if they ever updated the manual in the later models. I certainly did not check my manual in my 2016. I'd be curious. Those Sandisk Extreme Pro drives work great and they come in much larger sizes and others should work without any issues too.
That 512GB version was much nicer; never have to worry about running out of space anytime soon. Formatted FAT32 as recommended. I hope someone tries the larger 1TB. But with the AI madness going on, ram and storage are priced stupidly.
