I have had my 07 coupe for almost a year and love the manual transmission-my question is what are the pros and cons of a coupe vs convertible-to me a C6 with the top down has some of the best lines of any car in the world-just wanted to throw this out there-thanks !
I have owned a T-top, a Coupe and a Convertible, I have never owned a vert. The first Corvette I recall seeing was a C2, it red and a convertible, when I was 9 years old.
The pros and cons are indistinguishable. They both have tops, can be driven on sunny, cloudy, rainy or snowy days. I don’t drive mine on snowy days. The coupe top can be removed by one person and the convertible top can be lowered or raised by one person. Storage space is pretty good on both. It all comes down to personal preference. Automatic vs manual, it is all personal preference. The automatic will probably get better gas mileage, but a Prius will get considerably better gas mileage.
Personally, Corvettes should be convertibles with a manual transmission. However, Coupes with an automatics have outsold convertibles with a manual transmission.
I think it boils down to personal preference and how you are going to use the car. For me personally I only considered convertibles, Z51, with manual transmission. Mine is a toy and serves its intended purpose to drive on sunny days with the top down. I rarely ever drive it with the top up as that is just no fun for me. Like what you drive and drive what you like.
IMHO, the targa top gives the best of both worlds without the problems of a vert.
No seals, motors, hydraulic lines, electronics, and canvas to deal with.
This is all a matter of opinion. I love my '12 G.S. paddle shift coupe. Here's why. After a 44 year career in law enforcement and raising a family I bought my first Corvette at age 68. Money is an issue and I knew I had one shot at this. I wanted a coupe because generally they're cheaper and I didn't want to deal with any future issues with a leaking convertible top. I also wanted an auto as I've had surgery on both knees, and although they're fine today, one day I may not be able to push a clutch. I've had my targa top off once in the five years I've owned the car. My car has been garage kept it's entire life. It still looks and drives like new. If I hit the lotto I will buy a C8 Z06. Until then I'll keep my only Corvette. Bottom line is buy what you like and don't look back. 2012 4LT Velocity Yellow G.S.
My take is a little different. I hardly ever drop the top. Always loved the look of a c6 convertible with the top up. Convertible looks best on a corvette (especially lemans blue w/black top)lol. I may be a little biased though. 😂
After buying my convertible back in 2016, I can't image going back to a coupe. I live in the Chicago area and drive it any time there's no snow on the road. Just tucked it in for the winter last night.
Owned all 3, and by far my favorite is the Targa Top. We live in the Vally of the Sun, and have the Targa top off often. It does give you (as already stated) the best of both worlds. I too prefer the manual trans......but each to his own. As a matter of fact had the top off today with out beautiful weather. Many think my Targa Top (Painted Black) is glass.
If we're just throwing out opinions, I absolutely hate convertibles. Doesn't matter if its a Vette or anything else. I think they look worse than a fixed roof at all times, especially soft tops.
But if you (or anyone else) likes them that's all that matters. I'm not buying my car for anyone but myself and neither should anyone else.
Well, we all know what opinions are like. So, here's mine.
For me, it was only going to be a convertible. Top up or down, it looks great! There is just something so amazing about dropping the top on a beautiful day and feeling the wind in your hair!
