Default Starter shield and bracket installation

My 1965 327/365hp car didn't have the starter bracket or shield installed, so I purchased and want to ensure I installed it correctly. Please verify based on this picture. Thanks!

Looks correct to me, although I only use the bracket since I made a large aluminum heat shield to protect my entire starter. Dennis

Do you have any photos of that shield you made, Dennis?

You have it installed correctly. They are kind of tricky at first, but you are all good.

If you plan to use the choke clean air tube, now would be the time to install it. It’s a bear to install on the 365 engine.

Thanks for the reminder as I did forget to install it. So the question is, does the clean air tube route behind the spark plug shielding right beside the engine block? Or does it go through the notched out opening like the oil check tube does on the driver side?

Also, does the tube route through the small hole in the starter support bracket? Assume the tube mounts to the same bolt that the u shaped shielding and spark plug shielding mounts to, so there are 3 items mounted to that bolt. Is the order closest to the block, 1. Spark plug shield, 2.clean air tube, 3. U shielding for from spark plug wires?

Bottom line reminder to myself...take more and better pictures before tearing everything apart!

Please disregard my questions as I got it installed. To be helpful for others that might have the same questions in the future:
1. The clean air tube runs closest to the block and on the inside of the soark plug shielding.
2. Not sure of the correct order, but I installed the clean tube mount first (closest to the block), then the spark plug shielding mount, then the u shape spark plug wire shielding mount all on the same bolt.
3. The clean air tube then routes through the u-shaped cutout in the starter mount bracket.

Here is a picture in case it helps anyone in the future.

I don’t have pics on this device, but as I recall, I installed the bracket next to the block. It routs near the block, behind the manifold/ exhaust collector, then up behind the manifold and into the internal manifold tube.

PS: looks like you got it

What Jeff describes is an elegant solution for a "heat shield" for your starter bracket. These brackets were not designed to be a heat shield but, rather a support bracket and "debris" shield.

Default Starter brace stud

My small block 65 has an over the counter starter with 2 hex head thru bolts where there should be studs. Therefore I cannot attach starter brace. Or can I just remove the long thru bolt and thread it through the bracket hole? Starter is still on car.

Something most won't know, but there are numerous high heat insulating tapes, that are commonly used to wrap motors, capacitors, etc.. etc.. That unit is a stock part improvement, but more of a bandage, helps, not totally the best that can be done, especially for headered cars.
