[C1] standard or off road mufflers?

standard or off road mufflers?
The right side original muffler on my 60 gave out yesterday. The rest of the exhaust is still in good shape and this is not a show car, so just going to replace the mufflers not the whole exhaust. The car has the standard mufflers on it and is really quiet so I'm considering switching to the off road mufflers, but without being able to listen to a set on a car I'm not sure just how much louder they are. I'd like a little bit of sound, but don't want the car to be annoyingly loud. So my question is how much louder are the off roads VS the standard mufflers?

My car has only had the off road mufflers... they are not noisy for regular driving...they start to sing when you go thru the gears between 3000 and 4000 rpms....

Original GM off road mufflers have a note which is nearly musical..... very pleasant to hear, not overly loud. These are what you want, if you can find a set.
AFAIK none of the "repro" off road mufflers are internally constructed in the same way as the GM originals. They WILL sound different. Bad? I dunno. But definitely different.

I like the off road (repos) on my '60 as it drowns out all the other bad noises. Note that, IIRC, the stock oval muffler system on a '60 may not have a cross over pipe which I think the off road systems came with. Without that it may not sound the same as a factory off road system. Also, as you probably already know, the wind noise with the soft top up could probably drown out straight pipes.

I've had the off road mufflers, albeit reproductions. They rusted out, and I bought the Magnaflow off road system from Corvette Central. That really sounded nice, and actually woke the car up a little. I recently bought a 62 that has glass packs (of unknown brand). I never thought I'd say this, but they REALLY sound good. Very nice at speed as well.

A complete exhaust makeover was done on my ‘64 and replaced with a CC system. I’ve been pretty happy with the system performance. In normal cruise mode without much load on the engine the exhaust sound and tone is fairly quiet.
When you step on the gas you’ll hear the engine roar at a higher sound level.
I also like the fitment and construction of the magnaflow mufflers……smaller in overall size than factory mufflers and made of stainless steel.

Stock mufflers:
Off road mufflers (Ecklers):
Motor is a 1970 LT-1 350.
I much prefer the sound from the off-road mufflers in all cases (idle, cruise, romp). Never annoying.. just slightly 'agressive'.

I have Allens Exhaust with a crossover. I really like the sound. Not too loud but a little raspy. Just the way I like my women...
Unfortunately, I heard that Allens is no longer.

When I put my 61 together over 20 years ago I installed standard mufflers. My son gave me these for Christmas one year and asked to guess what they were.
I put the off-road mufflers on the car and I couldn't have been happier, It woke the car up and I enjoy the sound every time I drive it. Such a nice mellow tone and not very loud in the car when on the road.
