Default Vintage air kit

Just starting the install of a VA system in a 66 coupe and the kit does include a firewall cover (steel plate) to cover the hole for the original heater box. Per the instructions, this cover is mounted on the inside of the firewall which will leave the firewall looking like *** from the outside. I call the tech helpline and there is no other cover for the outside.Kind of strange that they would think was ok. I'm sure others have had to deal with this before.

Good solution....I like it....it does look factory. Since I don't have any factory heater parts, I will see if I can locate one.
And you said you did mount the VA plate where instructions say?

I did not learn anything from Tom but I would take a thin piece of sheet metal , add the needed holes ,paint and install .
m , I now saw post and picture #9 , I stand corrected. the cover looks good .

YES! . . . the only thing I did differently than the instructions detail ("Firewall Cover Installation" - page 9 of the instructions) is to mount the hex bolts backwards . . . from the inside so that you would have "studs" on the firewall side to mount the stock blower cover in the stock location using the stock nuts! You may need slightly longer hex bolts . . . I can't recall that part and I don't see any "notes" in my instructions!

I was working on this yesterday. I’m using a OEM heater delete plate set and making my connections through this plate so I can save the fresh air vent. Should have my last connection line mocked up this evening. I am using the original VA plate on the inside but will be cutting it down to have access to the unit connections from the firewall side.

Interesting option but it looks like it also covers the vent duct which we need to plumb the hoses, no?

Ahhh......even better. Now why doesn't VA offer this in the kit? even as an option?
I would like to see that cover when you are finish fabrication Elwood.
Thanks

I will keep you updated. May be a little bit as I need to send VA my short hardline mockups for them to make. Think it takes about two weeks. The downside to the factory heater delete plate is the 4 inner holes. I’m going to use one for the wiring and was going to plug the others with the those firewall insulation plugs. Since I have several things going to the powder coater I’m gonna weld up those other holes. When I was looking at the VA catalog I noticed that they a have a reduced barrier hose now that bends easier supposedly. I am going to try it on my hardline connections to the compressor.
