Convert 67 Corvette from auto to 4 speed
Hello, I have a non-original '67 auto that I'd like to convert to 4 speed. I prefer the M20 wide ratio 4 speed.
1. How can I tell that I'm getting the correct transmission?
2. Did the M20 come with the big block cars? Or were the big motor cars all close ratio?
Are there good sources for these? Or shall I just get one based on casting numbers knowing I'll have to have a pro go through it?
Thanks for any guidance.

As a fellow C2 owner, I wrestle with trying to keep it original in spite of the fact that there are plenty of parts and mods that are better than OE. Borgeson power steering is an example along with 5-speed transmissions.
Since your car is non-original and you’re about to make it even more non-original, it seems that you should choose a transmission that is readily available and a desirable upgrade as opposed to trying to find all of the parts to make it seem like original.
Most guys with C2 drivers have or would like to switch to a 5-speed and those are readily available.
Good luck with your project. It won’t be for the faint of heart.😀

I agree. I would definitely go with a 5 speed like the TKX from Silversport.

Yup, Tremec 5 spd here! Did keep the original Muncie CR in a box.

In May of 2019 I bought a 67 Powerglide coupe. Since then, I have gone to a 700R4, a 4L60E, and finally a TKX 5 speed. I'm 77 years old and as long as I can push a clutch in, I'll stick with the TKX.
Powerglide-------------Awful
700R4-------------------Not bad
4L60E-------------------OK but still boring
TKX 5 speed-----------Now that's what I'm talking about!
