Default How can I test a TI distributor pickup

I found this TI distributor magnetic pickup in a box of parts a friend gave me. I didn't know what it was until I googled the part number from the box. Given that it was in a correct Delco part box I have assumed it is NOS and works.

Is there a way to test this to make sure it works? I will probably eventually post it for sale, but I would like to make sure it works first.\

Thanks,
Don

Go to TI specialties page. Somewhere there will be the correct resistance (ohms) of a good coil. Get out your DVM and confirm what it appears to be, a NOS never used coil.

Thanks,

I went to the TI Specialties website and found an article on diagnostic of the TI Distributor. This article specified 500-700 ohms. I get 593 ohms on the one I have.

Default Testing a TI Magnetic Pickup

Hi Don,

Your post made me curious. I dug out my extra T.I. distributor and tested the magnetic pickup just to see what it said. Just like Fiedler's article it Ohm'ed out at about 582.

This distributor was working great before I removed it from my car so no issues with functionality.

Hope this helps your confidence with the sale.

Cheers. C.J.
