It's a tired subject, I know... but after getting to spend some quality time this summer with my recently picked up C7 Corvette Z06, I quickly learned the cup holders weren't designed to actually hold any cups 😆. I didn't like any of the solutions already available, so I wanted to share with the class a solution that mounts to the center console, between the seats, using existing studs/bolts.
I always carry around large bottles and hated not having a spot to conveniently place them, and I'm sure there are other people in the same boat. This cup holder has been great for me!
I have a no drinking policy in my car except for water, sealed cans and bottles are allowed but you're holding it if its not in the cup holder. So the cup holders work fine for anything not oversized. I find they are fine for anything that's a standard 12 oz can and most 16 oz cans and 20 oz bottles especially if you have two of them.
That specific model above would get in the way of my elbow.

Driving manual, I've never had an issue with elbow clearance or even while selecting driving modes with the **** further back. Granted, I'm not necessarily a tall person, so a valid concern to note.
Doesn't look very convenient to have to reach behind you for a cup.
You have to use your outside hand to reach across your body, but the motion doesn't feel unnatural imo. But certainly not as ergonomic as using your near hand.
I took out the center piece on mine and threw it out. I bought a new center piece that has spring clips to hold the cups tightly. I dremeled it to fit and it is a resounding sucess!!
Just look around and find a car with spring loaded center piece and buy one from the dealer. I got mine from Toyota or lexus I think.
I wouldn't mind something half that height and an open cavity just to put "stuff". I need PPE for work so I always have safety glasses/badge/ear plugs in my passenger seat. Otherwise they fit in the DS door cubby hole.
I agree. I hope no one gets the idea to put anything that far back and inconvenient, like a phone charger or something
I don't think it's too bad. I personally like the ergonomics more than the center console cup holders (travel buddy). I don't like reaching over the passenger console-handle and it kills leg room when you have a passenger.

I was also thinking this. Maybe just a little rectangular basket?

Nice work! Do you know if this design fits the Yeti, Stanley, etc tumblers?
Thanks! I designed one for both the C7 and C6 and people seem to really like them. The opening is 3.5" (90mm), so it fits my Yeti, but I know there are some pretty large tumblers out there. Milk jug version next? 🤔

There's a thread on here that mentions using a device from a Lexus? I believe. It replaces the lame center cup separators and places a excellent pressure device to hold the cups.
I ordered it. I don't remember but it wasn't a lot of money. What I especially like is the hold is good and strong, looks factory, and the door can still close.
It really was a game changer for me. Picture enclosed.
I 3d printed one I found online, it is basically just like the OEM one except it actually stays in place solid. Haven't had a cup or water bottle tip over yet!
