I have searched the old posts with no real answers: I have a '95 convertible and I am interested in getting the keyless entry to work with a fob. I understand they are as hard to find as unicorns, but still want to try.
Coupe C4 fobs have two buttons. One for the door and the other for the rear hatch. I saw some information that the convertible fob might be a single button version. Is that correct? Would the two button coupe fob work on the convertible, even if only the one door button works? I have also read that if you find a new replacement, it likely will not work. You have to have one of the impossible to find originals. Can anyone guide me on getting this done or is it a lost cause? Is there a specific original model number that I need to look for? Any help would be appreciated by this brain trust! Love the car. Do not love that we had 12" of snow last weekend here in PA.
The convertible does only have one button for the doors. They are available on rare occasions. The programming is done in the car.
I have the original ones for my ‘96 so I am not sure if a 2 button coupe would still open the doors. There are members on the forum that make replacement cases and I think at one time there was a lady that could prove the complete FOB.
There's a person who is able to make OEM fobs. She actually has OEM parts, very specific process that she does, but you can reach her via email at c4fob@yahoo.com. As best I recall, she can do either coupe or vert fobs, just let her know which you need.
I had one that came with my car, but I wanted a backup so I'd have 2 fobs; and she built one for me in Nov of 2024. Works perfectly. I assume she is still building them. I don't remember the fee, but it was reasonable, given that they are basically unobtainium.
I actually gave my 96 fob away. I hated it. They don't work like modern fob's. I don't like the automatic locking and unlocking. I have to get my ignition key out of my pocket anyway it takes very little time to unlock the door with a key. Just my opinion. Dan

I only have one FOB but leave it in the house with the spare set of keys, I too don't like to auto lock/unlock.
I found a unicorn! I now have a single button fob for the convertible. I will try tomorrow to see if it works and can be programmed. The case however was cracked. I just sent an email to the person listed in this string to see if she can still provide cases. If not, does anyone know where another single button convertible key fob case could be found? If this fob works, I think I read the two button case will work????I will continue to search as well. Maybe a second unicorn will run by????
