I know there are tons of threads on this issue, but I'm still a bit confused. I just picked up a delco PF48 filter at Walmart.
I have seen lots of posts here saying to avoid the "e-core" PF48E. Does this one have the old metal core or did they just drop the "E" and now this new PF48 (12737086) is just the same as the PF48E?
I also see a lot of people recommending the Mobil 1 M1-113, but all they have on the shelf is the M1-113A. Is the "A" the same and should I just go with that?
I have cut several of those PF48 filters open as well as several Mobil1 113A filters and the ac delco is garbage compared to the M1. Not saying the PF48 won’t be perfectly fine to use but the quality difference is night and day

I haven’t used a Fram filter in anything in many years because of crap quality stuff they used to put out but you’re right the HP18 looks like a very good quality filter. I’d still use a Mobil1 113 over it but I would use a Fram HP18 if someone gave me one for sure. It may be just as good but the Mobil and Wix filters are hard to beat in quality
UPF48R is what I currently use in my annual oil changes because of its availability through my local parts store. In the past I’ve used Fram HP18, M1 113A, K&N. They’re all good.
Wix XP filters are not very good efficiency wise. After doing some reading about oil filters on another forum the general consensus seems to be that premium guard xl are currently the best filters. They also make the house brand for a lot of places including car quest and Napa
