Ok so picked up a 90 ZR1 and the Electronic Climate Control C68 doesn't seem to be working correct. I have not checked anything nor searched the threads but the symptoms are this. Bringing it home, the HVAC controls stopped working but then now seem to be functioning ok. When I started it today, it blasted cold air for a bit then stopped. I am unsure if this is just a low freon situation or if something else is at play. Also not sure if it has been converted to R-134A. I will start checking threads here and see if this is a common issue.

Hi,
Are the buttons actually responding? I had to rebuild my C68 unit, a company called Batee makes excellent DIY videos on how to do it. Sometimes its as simple as re-flowing the solder or cleaning the carbon pill contacts. Also had to repair my heater core and blend door as all of them were also broken.
If it's converted to R134, usually there are these adapters on the R12 connectors. Do you see those?
Congrats on the ZR1!
Sorry you're having hvac issues. I hope you're able to fix it easily.
If you do have to retrofit to R134a or whatever the newest stuff is, just be sure to change the condenser, and other necessary components and flush everything else. Let a shop with the proper equipment charge the system.
P.S. post pics of your new ride!
Update- started the car last night and boom cold air. I contacted Bryan at Batee and he dashed my hopes saying it usually works on initial startup then fails so likely still need to pull the programmer for a rebuild.
Regarding the controller, what did Brian say his turnaround time was? Probably worth it to do it. I can foresee it not working at the most inopportune time, like a hot July 4th day!
Update- took a spirited sprint in the ZR1 Sunday! Low and behold, the Auto HVAC seemed to work so I guess time will tell whether it was just a "sticking" issue from sitting or what the deal is. I'll run it until it does work then send it off for rebuild.
Update- so spoke to Marc Haibeck and he thinks the failure mode is in the blend door. It sounds like the error codes are hit and miss on these things (C68). I don't have any which makes me question its either programmer or blend door control but perhaps that's wishful thinking. I am thinking of taking to a local gent and having him check the freon level before diving into either programmer or blend door actuator replacement.
