They had/have a bad image for obvious reason. Fit, Finish for the most part.
But, my 93 has 160000 miles on it. It has been painted, engine make over and suspension at least once in its life. Still runs hard, with the 396LT1
Pfftp. There's "Me go straight" fast and then there's "Really Going" fast. I prefer Turns.
C4s are really fun to drive on those long, winding back roads. They handle so well and you don't even really have to touch the brakes; just work the gears and accelerator pedal, even with an automatic, shfting between 2nd and 3rd as you get into and out of those curves.
One of my favorite back roads to drive around here is very winding and has quite a few steepgrades as well. Handles like a sportscar but sounds and drives like muscle on those types of roadways when you're getting into it.

Straight is just kind of boring.
I jokingly refer to the C4 as a car with an identity crisis. One minute it wants to be a sports car, the next a muscle car. I find it damned entertaining and engaging.
If I'm not mistaken, all C4 Corvette's do at least a 0-60 in the 6-Second range or better (at sea level). That's still pretty quick.
You have Dual Motor Teslas which pretty much everyone can buy, and you can get the Plaid version which will be quicker than the quickest Corvette (at least that was the case 2 years ago).
But the C4 is an old car, and it's from a different time. It's no less a worse car today than it was then. Some people buy C5s today because they're affordable and you can have pretty modern performance with them. But at this point, if you're buying a C4, it's probably because you like the car's style and appreciate it for what it is... not because you intend to win any races.
Look at the late 60s Porsche 911s. I very much, distinctly remember that you could get a 1968 and 1969 Porsche 911 for around $4,500 bucks... running... in 1998-2000 time frame. I saw them all over eBay and AutoTrader, and I was seriously considering it. You could get them in non-running condition for a couple grand with a clean title. That's because in ~1999 a late 60s Porsche 911 was worse in every single way possible when compared to a 4-door Honda Civic DX that a middle-aged woman would be driving to her 9 to 5. Then people realized they were super cool looking still, and now you're lucky to find a late 60s Porsche 911 for under $60k... though the prices have come down significantly from where they were just 4-5 years ago when they were all well over $100k.
But we just got a 1984 Corvette with Cross-Fire Injection. A lot of people have made it a point to tell me that it's the "least desirable model ever made." I've had two people surprised that I wasn't offended by that... haha.. but I guess it's because I didn't buy the car so I could look cool, but because I'm totally fascinated with the engineering and what the car represented.
So... I know this was a rage-bait post... but the same goes for the C1, C2, C3, and even the C5. These are all older cars now... and the C8 is just a wildly better car in every single way. It should not diminish the fun and excitement that people get from driving a well-kept, and well-running classic.
I actually started out looking for an 84. They are the most C4 of all C4's, the initial clean slate as intended by the designers and engineers before the media and public started demanding changes to suit every tom dick or harry.
Even the crossfire was a perfect example of the imperfect era. I believe it still had 25hp or so on the 5L mustang of the year.
People that don't know or value automotive historia parrot the "least desirable" bit by and large in my observation. I still want one.
That and its fun to drive.
People that don't know cars still think its more Expensive and Exotic then it really is.
I like the New Corvettes too, they Carry the torch for all Corvettes.
Yeah allot of new sports cars are faster but I put it this way:
If a fast Modern car wants to Race my 40 years old Corvette to make me feel bad or say they beat a Corvette.
I'm like Nah let them go, I bet they won't Mess with a new top Dog Vette LOL
Mine is still a Vette too so Whatever+ Vette is still A hot car no matter what year, the name speaks for itself.
