Fixing those door panels... ugh.. Mine don't have the inner ribs so I can't use the "zip tie method". I'll need to employ something else. Also, need to figure out why the lateral adjustment on my mirrors won't work. Replaced switch and the motor operate but it's gotta be something! Right I'm on vacation though so Im hittin the water tomorrow!
I have new door panel carpet to install on the door panels on my 88. They came in on Saturday but this weekend was just too busy and I was unable to get to them. Some other parts came in, but I won't install them until I have the rest that I'm waiting on. It makes sense just to do everything at once.
RustyDuster,
There are two motors that control the mirror. One for vertical and one for lateral. They have jack screws that go into a worm drive gear which changes the rotation to linear motion. I had to buy a used mirror assembly and disassemble it to get the motor out to repair mine.

Thanks power play, I actually put my power probe on both those motors and they worked. It's either wiring or switch. I got another (used) switch but still same thing. Of course there's a possibility the replacement switch has the same problem!

The mirror comes off by tilting it so you can get your fingers behind it and then pull on it gently and you will hear a popping noise which is the mirror coming off the jacking stud screws. Once the mirror is off you will see how it all works. The motors reverse direction by changing the polarity to the motors. As the motors turn you will see the jack posts going in and out. Apply your power probe to the wires for each motor and see it they move. I had to replace one as I said above.
The switches are an open frame that moves a contact back and forth to change the polarity. Once you get in there it becomes pretty simple operation.
All 6 U-joints. I'll replace the rear pads at the same time, as I have them on the shelf and will have the wheels off.
Ohm the plug wires. (It drops a cyl under acceleration. The injectors passed my tests. The wires are 2 years old, shouldn't be a problem, but checking costs nothing.)
Next trip is 5,500 miles RT. I leave June 1. I've got 4-1/2 weeks.

Thanks for posting this. 5,500 miles is a significant distance. I intend a similar distance this fall which i started a thread about. In the past, you've mentioned bringing a spare water pump and Opti. What other parts do you bring? If you will, I'd appreciate seeing a picture of tools you bring with your trips. What do you bring for fluids?
List of things to do on my C4 - Have the parts...need the time:
- Install distributor cover (was missing when I bought the car earlier this month...bought a new cover and screws)
- Install Door Panel Defroster Bezels (driver door is broken, passenger door is missing)
- Install Android Auto radio and bezel and verify speakers/wires
- Replace gauge cluster lighting (got the LED replacements from Batee.com)
- Replace all cabin screws (a lot of them are rusty for some reason)
- Replace lights in sunvisors (for some reason, the right light is missing on both sun visors...)
- Replace cracked gear selector glass
List of things to do on my C4 - Don't have the parts yet...and also need the time:
- Check clicking sound in dashboard (left side of steering wheel)
- Replace ALL weather stripping
- Replace steering wheel (leather is all cracked on current one)
- Replace all cabin lighting with LED (ordered pack from Amazon...never delivered)
- Replace latch cables for convertible top (snapped one of the cables while trying to tighten...both have broken plastic parts on them)
- Replace center console cover/arm rest (ordered from Zip, came broken, waiting to hear back from them...)
- Replace broken door trim on driver side
- Replace convertible top rear latch bezels with metal ones (plastic ones are broken and partly missing)
- Replace inside door lock **** on both doors
- Install small hood struts (one is missing, the other is likely dead)
- Install front bumper license plate filler if I can find one for a decent price
List of things I have done in my C4 so far (acquired on April 4, 2026):
- Replaced under hood lights with LEDs and cleaned protective glasses
