Just noticed my windshield was cracked after a ride. Anyone have idea how much replacement would be. Do I go thru Chevy for repairs or can I go thru another shop
I think it's around $1600 plus install for HUD glass. Plus tint. I got a chip in my windshield and just had it repaired. I swear I think my car is a rock magnet.
You can get the windshield from $600 to $800 bucks. Then you will have to pay labor for installation if you dont put it in yourself. On the flip side. If your car is insured. You can make a claim. You pay whatever the deductible is. You can go with whomever you want rather you use insurance or not. Dealers will most likely source out the job, so you might as well get whom you want.
Be aware that my local Chevy dealer received 7 OEM windshields that were cracked before they got one that could be installed in a friend's car. I had a windshield replaced at a local Windshield place and was very satisfied with their work. Here in AZ, windshield replacement is a 0 deductible so I don't know what it cost for replacement.
Safelite has replaced windshields on two C4s, a C6, a C7, my C8, and a Cadillac CTS-V.... totally satisfied with the work.
Safelite replaced the HUD glass in my 2011 ZR1 when it was only 5 months old underneath my home carport. Totally satisfied. It was GM OEM glass without the premium price. The tech showed me where the GM logo was erased but not completely from the glass.

I was told by the tech that it was under agreement with GM that would allow Safelite to sell it at a lower 3rd party cost to compete with other non OEM suppliers.
You should have glass coverage with your auto insurance. I would recommend Safelite they do good quality work. They will replace it in your garage if you prefer not to go to one of their locations.
Last time I bought a windshield it was 800 bucks. You can buy oem and pickup and take to a shop to install. They will all try to charge you a calibration fee which is a ripoff most scan tools can do it but I have found a local place that will allow you to sign a waver on it and save the 250-500 fee of the recalibration of the front collision sensor. (Depends on your of your vehicle).
One call to Safelite and they will handle everything. No muss no fuss. And the install can be done in your driveway or your work parking lot. Been there done that with my F150. Twice.
I went to Walmart the other day, Safelite was in the north 40 of the parking lot working on a Bronco.
In Arizona, the state requires all auto policies to have zero deductible glass repair. As do KY, SC, NY, MA, FL, and CT. Safety issue. Truth, it is baked into the premium, but still seems 'free' to me.

You should be able to go through a vendor other than a dealership to get your windshield replaced. I have used Safelite before and have been very satisfied.

Got a small chip after owning it for a little over a week!
If you go the safelite route, do this: go to their site, put in all of your information, all the up to the check out...dont check out. Wait a couple of days and you will get an email or text from them offering a discount. Wait a few more days...you will get an email from them offering a bigger discount. For me, last time it went up to 30% and then I checked out.
youar glass should be covered under your comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy,, and glass claims dont count they way an accident does on your record. Depending on state glass can have no ded. Also insurance will allow for oem glass as aftermarket glass does not have the emblems and insignias that the oem glass has therefore it is not like kind and quality. Safelite or payless glass companies can get the oem glass and install
Safelite is known for trying to pawn off aftermarket windshields.
The strength of these non OEM windshield are significantly lower.
Well 1st: USAA works with Safelite on glass - and I've been with USAA for more than 30 years
And too, , I've got more than 1,000,000 miles in 8 Corvettes over 35 years and have ZERO complaints with my Safelite windshields.
