Anyone waiting in line for a Lingenfelter build? My 08 Z06 developed a rod knock last fall, oil pressure falling, the whole nine yards. Parked it right away and contacted Lingenfelter for the work. Got the bid from them. I accepted it and subsequently gave them a sizeable deposit. September 2025 was the quote and deposit date. It's been seven months and I'm still waiting for the green light to ship the car to Wixom, MI. Maybe cam or blower packages take priority, I don't know, but I'm getting pretty discouraged with the whole thing.
Would like to hear anyone else's experiences. Please chime in
Thanks in advance
Greg
Interesting times for the aftermarket corvette industry. There aren't as many shops doing the work anymore it seems?
I had them do a package for me back in 2009-2010 and had great results. I got the LPE660 package while it was still in Decatur Indiana and I don't recall that long of a delay. The car made > 600 rwhp and was powerful. I never had any issue with it.
I would probably look for an alternate shop if it were me, but I know options are limited.
AFAIK, LPE is still in Decatur. But they also bought out Thomson Automotive in Wixom, Michigan. This happened around 2014. 99% certain they still have both locations in operation. Wixom was an expansion, and in addition to, Decatur. Perhaps look into Katech?
Last year I emailed asking about the LPE 710 package and the so called off the shelf tune they made for it, as I don’t think I can ever hand my car to a shop.
Never got a response, and decided to leave the car stock. Not the first time an email has gone unanswered about their products.
As mentioned check with Katech, I have emailed with them and they are very responsive, have not read anything negative about them on the forum, all positive.

I would have asked for my money back last year. There are other tuners out there, don't forget its May now. They probably already spent your money and forgot about you.
Is there any language in the paper work discussing a refund in part or whole of your deposit ? How could a Lingenfelter business rip someone off so blatantly ? Makes no sense
Lingenfelter has closed it's Decatur,IN location. There are many like yourself waiting on their builds. My friend worked there for 10+ years and gave me the scoop. He turned down their offer to relocate and works out of his own shop. If you need a shop in Indiana area for your build PM new and I'll get you his info.
I'm really surprised they closed their original shop. I'm certain it's due to financial, and perhaps logistics. Sorry to hear this, even though I live in Michigan.

Katech did my heads 8-10 years ago and all was well until last fall. Not being a LS7 expert I'm suspecting, and this is only conjecture on my part, that the stock lifters failed reeking havoc on the motor. Kateck's comment to me was "the car was too new to replace the lifters"
I had #8 exhaust lifter wheel fail in my 18K engine. No track time, oil changed every 1500-1800 miles with AMSOIL full synthetic. Engine was stock other than heads being fixed, and a tune. Even though the lifter wheel failed the cam was still usable if I wanted to reuse it. I don’t know why it failed, what I can tell you is I am now spending money that I had no intention of spending on a cam, new lifters, new oil pump etc. And yet I still am not willing to sell my Z06.

When I bought my '08 and was on the forum, there was an absurd amount of blown LS7 motors compared to the LS1, LS6, LS3. Some driving 30 MPH, never tracked and poof. Nobody knew why they were failing at a high rate. When mine failed under warranty (35,xxx miles) a GM regional engineer diagnosed the problem and I blew the case wide-open here on the forum.
Its clear Katech is still in the dark about the heads after more than 16 years. Same with every other shop shop advertising here to fix heads. People think Katech and start jizzing because they were the engine builder for the winning C5/C6 Corvette team, but your case proves how Katech runs their business.
People say LS7 heads need fixed so I'll send it to a shop who everyone raves over on the forum, has double digit upvotes, a gold star and blows smoke up their ***. The deception is pretty sad, but that is reality.

OK… So if you were getting heads addressed now, who would you suggest?

If my 2008 hadn’t already had the heads fixed when I bought it, I’d be calling Tony Mamo for a set of his aftermarket castings. I’ll keep an eye on my current setup and when the time comes to refresh, I’ll switch to his heads.
Hello - I left a voicemail last week about possibly having you do my head work. I wanted to ask some questions first. I can be reached at 330-519-8419. J
