Default Something BIG Coming From Chevrolet

The Following Came From "GM Authority">A Tease From From The Bowtie>

Chevrolet Performance Teases New Engine, And It Will Be Big

By Jonathan Lopez

May 6, 2026 8:01 am
28 Chevrolet Performance has dropped a new teaser image on social media, sparking a wave of speculation over what may be headed down the pipe.

The image is accompanied by a caption that reads “Something BIG is coming…”, and offers a close-up glimpse of what appears to be a new powerplant, potentially signaling the next step in GM’s hot-to-trot V8 strategy.

The image itself shows a tight, high-resolution shot of what looks to be the top of an engine, specifically the intake manifold. This component is seen with a black finish and textured surface, accented by machined metallic ribs running across the top, painted in contrasting white. A prominent Chevrolet bowtie logo is seen on top of the casting.

Visible in the frame are portions of the surrounding engine hardware, including hoses, clamps, and electrical connectors, suggesting a modern, production-ready design rather than just a concept. The layout and proportions strongly resemble a contemporary pushrod V8 configuration, consistent with GM’s long-running small-block architecture.

Decal on a Chevrolet Performance vehicle.

The “BIG” messaging immediately raises questions about displacement. General Motors is already rolling out its Gen 6 Small Block V8 engine family alongside new production investments at facilities in Michigan, New York, and Ontario, all pointing toward continued development of GM’s internal combustion performance engines.

Given those factors, this teaser could be an early look at a new Gen 6 V8 variant, building on the recent release of the 6.7L V8 LS6 launching with the new C8 Corvette Grand Sport. The intake design could also hint at revised airflow characteristics or packaging changes to support higher output or better thermal management.

As expected, enthusiasts quickly took to the comments to share their theories and wishlist items. Some are hoping for a supercharged V8 aimed at high-performance pickup trucks, potentially giving the Chevy Silverado ZR2 a direct rival to supercharged competitors like the Ram TRX. Others see broader applications, including a return of the Chevy Camaro ZL1 or a new Impala SS.

At this stage, Chevrolet Performance has yet to provide any official specifications or details of any kind, but by all accounts, enthusiasts are keen to learn more. Stay tuned as we dig in.

That changes with the introduction of a new LS6 V-8 displacing 6.7 liters (a.k.a. a real fine 409 cubic inches) as the base engine in the 2027 Corvette Stingray and the newly announced Grand Sport and Grand Sport X.

I mean OK I guess but frankly I wouldn't agree to have a new Chevy if GM paid me to drive it. Yes, even a new C8.

Why? The nonsense bloat tech and hostage-by-software that's why. I won't support that industry with a new car sale.

Today, building a 409 with legacy parts is toooooooooooo easy. Simply bore a SB400 .040 over = 409. AND, AND, AND, with a little added stroke, it becomes a 427. It also can be made to "appear" vintage correct.

Since Chevy recently revived the "See the USA' song/commercial, I'd love to hear a revised Beach Boys commercial:
When I take her to the track she really shines (giddy up, giddy up 409)
She always turns in the fastest times (giddy up, giddy up 409)
My eight speed, dual clutch, posi-traction 409
