Those of us that are familiar with this induction system might enjoy this. There are very few people left that were around and took note when the Rochester fuel injection system was being developed, I have a friend that was there and shared this story with me tonight. Two identical 1956 Chevrolet passenger cars with the same engines, weight, gears, etc, one with carburetor(s) and one with a proto type FI were prepared and drag raced. The FI car was said to be 2 car lengths faster in the 1/4 mile and prompted Chevrolet to continue development, offering this system in 1957. We know the advertised HP of the FI engines were higher than similar carburetor engines but hearing the history was nostalgic - to me. Al, there is a similar accounting of FI vs carburetor in Karl Ludvigsen's seminal work, "Corvette - America's Star-Spangled Sports Car". I bet it's the same experiment your friend remembers!
