Default Brake Air Deflectors

What’s up guys. Wondering if the front lower control arm brake air deflectors are needed when using a car strictly for roll and drag racing. I know they are more so for break cooling at the track but seems like they would actually cause some high speed drag when used primarily for straight line performance. Attached is a picture of the deflectors. Let me know your thoughts.

IMHO there is so much disturbed air in that location that I would be very surprised if removing those brake cooling deflectors would make any measurable performance gains for you. If you are running trap speeds at 160+ you might think about it.

From a roll the car sees 160+ fairly often

At that speed you may be seeing some differential between having the deflectors and not. One question would be whether they are hindering or possibly helping by smoothing out airflow. If they are a significant problem, then doing some testing utilizing differential time-to-speed measurements might give you an idea what's going on. I would be surprised at a measurable difference, but I've been surprised before. The biggest problem may be finding a place to do the testing.

Yes that’s my thought process exactly. I’d have to find a safe spot and do back to back 100-150 dragy pulls to see the difference if there is one. Was hoping maybe someone had so insight beforehand tho lol

Do you have any 1/2 mile events coming up in your part of the world?

Just an update on this topic. I reached out to Vengeance Racing about it and they advised me that on purpose built cars like mine which only see roll and drag racing they have taken the deflectors off as they created unnecessary drag. That they are only needed for break cooling when being tracked. Hope this helps

Good to get an opinion from someone that might have some data/experience.

Out of curiosity, where do you race in south Florida? Im in NE Florida and I’d have to drive at least two hours to do it legally.

Closest option is Homestead Speedway when they have roll racing events.

Let us know if you see any difference in times or top speed after removing the deflectors.
