I finally got new tires (Michelin Pilot Sport) that have higher Max PSI than the original factory installed tires.
Original tires = max 30PSI
New tires = max 50PSI.
I am getting high tire pressure alert, even though I only have 40PSI pressure in new tires.
Was the car set up at the factory to 30PSI for high alert?
Do I need to re-set / re-program the (TPMS) tire pressure monitor sensor for my new max pressure of 50PSI?
Thanks in advance, Dan
50 us the MAX pressure. Follow the sticker on the door jamb. Should be around 30.
The correct tire pressure doesn't change just because you have a different brand of tire. You want to fill the tires to 30 psi. There is no way to change the sensors. They are programmed correctly. Lower your tire pressure to 30psi. The new tires CAN take more pressure than the old ones, that doesn't mean they SHOULD.
Tire pressure on tire sidewall is the max for that tire cold, not the tire pressure setting for the car.
I guarantee the original tires showed 50 psi max too.
You always go by the car manufacturer's tire pressure specs for normal street driving.
SHEESH, I bet even at 40 psi that car was riding like a buckboard!
