Default I need help with a price for a 68-82 model

YES, YES, YES, I know this is the 53-67 forum, i need no reminding.
One of our friend's is looking to buy a 68-82 (preferring a 70-73) and asking my advice on 2 cars he has looked at (and turned down).
Even though this is not the 68-82 forum, I'm hoping there may be knowledgeable, helpful sources for advice.
Our friend wants to be at a max of $15K for a NEEDS NOTHING, READY TO GO car. I have not found a way to politely and tactfully tell him that he is way off base for such a deal on a 73 or even an 82.
First, what is the price range for a needs nothing, ready to go car?
Next, any suggestion as to how to tell him he is not going to find that car for his price limit?

Thanks

I would direct him towards Corvette magazine's Corvette Buyer's Guide for 2026. Some of the prices fit into his price range but none outside of the "Low Price" category which are typically project cars. He's probably off by about 2X in realistic terms ... if he's willing to compromise on his expectations. He also needs to understand (and this is the hard part) that buying one of these cars is just the beginning. In any event, the Buyer's Guide will let him see for himself. Of course, those Corvette Magazine guys are probably part of the conspiracy and so are you.

a 70-72/73 is a way different car then a 77-82 and a 74-76 can be the same thing. your friend should really decide what shark car he likes

Have him watch cars on Bring a Trailer. I follow the C3s there as well as C2s.

Have him take a look through the C3 “For Sale” section of this forum.

Your friend is not going to find a needs nothing 68-72 Corvette for $15K
He will need to adjust his expectations.

Tom. As much as this pains me to say that for a needs nothing chrome bumper C3 driver in “B” condition he needs to double his budget at minimum.

For $15K he finds a running, perhaps dependable driving car that needs everything, with the possible exception of paint.

If the aftermarket would would catch up to the aging electronic problems and offer good replacement parts and rebuilding services on others the C4 is a great car. But those problems are holding them back. C5 are starting to have the same problems.

He should have no problem finding a decent rubber bumper car in that price. But any of those cars that need paint and interior work will off set the price of those cars

Tom,

That is a hard ask but I find that looking through the listings on Hemmings gives you a good idea where the market is. You can sort by year and see a variety of offerings.

For a solid driver he can forget about the chrome bumper cars. 15k is rubber bumper money, if you can find one..........

Completely subjective. We've had this debate up in C3 lots of times & many prefer the look of the buttress roof over the big window....

You can judge a Texan Doctor by how fast he prescribes a Shiner Bock for life's problems.
