Does anyone know where I can source a "Dynator" - an alternator that looks like the original dynamo please ('57 C1 283)?
I will need one with the tacho output on it if possible.
Oh - and that will ship to the UK if possible................
I'm looking to change for two reasons - one is simply more juice to run some extra electrickery I'm planning to install.
Second - is a bit more weird.
My car seems to want to fry the electronics of a modern electronic distributor - one each from HEI and Pertronix.
It appears that the electrical supply is really noisy and spike ridden.
Yes - I could put a load of filtering on there, but that's just a band-aid covering up the root cause.
If I can kill two birds with one stone - that's the route I'd prefer to go down.
Thanks everyone.
And for anyone who jumped in on my valve covers thread previously - I hope to be able to update you on the conclusion of that saga soon
There's a company called Powermaster that makes a line of products called PowerGEN alternators which look like the originals (at least at first glance) and may be what your looking for. Summit Racing is one of their dealers so you can see them on their website. Another alternative is to use your existing generator/(dynamo in your speak) but convert your existing vibrating points regulator to solid state. They also replace the cutout relay with a diode and from the outside your regulator looks just as it did. Give Rex at Precision-pwr.com a call. He converted my '54's regulator to solid-state and the generator output went from incredibly ugly on my oscilloscope to something very close to a modern alternator's waveform.
