I have a new to me, 67 Big Block 427, and I'm installing all new belts and hoses. Given that my car has both factory power steering and AC, as a result my car has four belts. The inner most belt goes from the crank to the water pump. The only way to get the old one off was to unbolt water pump pulley from the water pump (I don't have a mechanical fan, the aluminum radiator has two electric fans.
I now have the pulley off and have installed the inner most small belt but the new belt is so tight (same part umber as was on the car) that I can't get the pulley back up onto the water pump to bolt it back into place. What is the trick?
Get a Phillips screwdriver that will fit in the water pump hun bolt threads and walk the pulley into place
Yep, been trying that. Your Phillips screw drivers must like to walk more than mine. I get it half way on with one very loose bolt and the pulley is tilted and I'm unable to get it to square up so that I can get any other bolts or the screw driver in.

Disconnect the coil wire (so that the car doesn't accidently start) and have an assistant bump the ignition key ever so slightly as you walk the belt on using the screwdriver...that's the only way we did it back in the day.
