I've replaced every wear component on the suspension as well as shocks, springs, power steering pump, actuator and cylinder. I also rebuilt the steering gearbox. I just got a 4 wheel alignment Monday and on the way home it seemed to wander a bit at 60mph. My ignition problem caused me to remove the steering column and the lower bearing is a bit loose so I'll replace that. The mechanic found that I had not tightened up one of the ball joint ears which makes me want to go over the whole suspension and check that every fastener is tight.
Can the worn lower bearing in the steering column cause sloppy steering?
I "think" I need to raise the rear up a bit more and oddly the left front is higher than the right front but the rear is even when measured at the apex of the wheel well at each wheel.
I measured the height of the fenders at the apex and got the following
LF 28 3/4" RF 28 1/4"
LR 27 5/8" RR 27 1/2"
So seems like I need to raise the back about 3/4" I think. The rear spring is a Van Steel composite and both bolts are adjusted exactly the same amount. The front springs are new as well.
