I was just getting the car ready for a show this weekend and started wondering how many late C3's still rock their factory AM/FM/CB radios? I know it was an expensive option in 1979; it was only about $130 less than the L82 option and close to the cost for A/C and only 8% of cars came with one. Mine is still in place and works just as it should, even still have the FCC license application with the delivery paperwork as a license was required to operate a CB in 1979.
Close to 20,000 Corvettes were ordered with a CB radio between 78 and 82 so there are probably more than a few that still have a CB in them. It seems that quite a few Pace Cars came with a CB radio, I don't know how many but considering that most Pace Cars have been left as original unmolested cars, I'd say it's a safe bet that most Pace Cars built with a CB likely still has it.
The tough thing about keeping an original working CB radio in a 78-82 Corvette is not the radio, it's the power antenna. A lot of those original CB power antennas have died years ago and there's no repro available.

You are correct, when I first got this car, the antenna did not work all the time. Being an AC Delco distributor myself, I had some of my contacts go through their "New/Old" stock and factory returns and found one after about a year of looking. It wasn't cheap.
