Default Replacing the OEM engine block coolant drain plugs with brass petcocks

Now that it appears my intake manifold and valve cover seals/gaskets project is wrapping up, I want to replace all the coolant with all new coolant and to remove as much of the old coolant as possible but I’ve always been afraid to mess with these drain plugs on the side of the engine block for fear that if they were corroded in place I would strip the hex key opening and then I'd be in a real pickle. I got the right tool and the courage to try to get them out and was successful (thanks goodness) in removing them but was sweating bullets the entire time because they were very difficult to get out and the whole time I was afraid I was going to strip the opening of those plugs.
.
I know DZauto replaces all the OEM drain plugs with brass petcocks, but has anyone replaced their OEM drain plugs with this style of drain plug?

Yep. I have done it on all of my small-block engines, except for the C4 that has knock sensors factory installed in those holes. Drain-downs are much easier with them installed.

I just put in brass pipe plugs years ago and they have been in and out a couple of times, no problems.

I wouldn't bother. Just use some anti-seize on the plugs after first removal.

If you flush your engine block, and after that use and maintain good coolant (like Zerex G-05) you should never have to use these plugs again in your lifetime. But if you do, the anti-seize used above will allow easy removal.
