Default Make it make sense - oil report

Long story short, I have non-magnetic glitter in the bottom of the drain pain on every oil change regardless of the miles on the oil. I’ve cut the filter open each time and the filter is clean, everytime. It’s a bone stock 2012 grand sport with 33k miles, bought the car at 31,500 miles. Oil pressure is great, no misfires and no unusual noises.
Got my oil report back and basically it’s normal. As it states in the report, their testing does not account for larger visible particles, but if there were an issue I would expect elevation in the microscopic particles also. The oil only had 975 miles on it and the universal averages for comparison are at 3800 miles….But still overall this report looks promising. What the heck could be happening in this motor?!

Might want to delete that copy of the report and replace it with one without your email and phone number visible.

How would you guys be feeling after this report? Maybe put the full 3800 miles on the current oil and send it another sample??

Doesn't hurt. Just drive and when you hit your traget miles cut open the oil filter if is clean. then your good to go.

Ive but the filter open like 4 times now but none of them had significant mileage except for this last one l, which had close to 1000 miles. It was damn near spotless, at least to the naked eye. Pretty crazy. I’m gonna run 8300 miles on the current oil and send another sample in as well as cut the filter. Could it be a main bearing getting wiped but all the shavings just chillin in the oil pan and not actually circulating?!

I recommend taking pics and/or video of what you are seeing in the drain pan the next time you change the oil. Post them here.

Oil report looks quite good. Nothing to indicate any problem with any bearings, cam, oil pump, etc.

As for the non-magnetic glitter, that is weird. Do you know if there was any head work or internal engine work done to the car before you bought it? Maybe there could have been aluminum shavings somewhere?

Agreed. That is weird. Or someone dropped the ball at the factory. Seems like leftover shavings from machining.

Only history I know on the car is that it was an elderly man that traded it in on a new dodge truck. The guy owned it about 5/6 years and kept it in a garage and only put maybe 2k miles or less on it. Prob did several cold starts as he stated it was more of a “show piece” for him
The car was bone stock and I’ve seen zero indication that there has ever been any internal
work done to the motor.

Amen brother I agree completely, you are exactly right. I’m just trying to attempt to make sense of it all. It’s such a mystery to me and you know my past luck so it still blows my mind that I’m in this situation. I haven’t stopped driving it just trying to fill in some of the blanks.

I could kind of understand if the motor had been built and this was break-in material but my motor is bone stock with 33k miles on it.
Did yours ever clear up?

side note - I had a magnetic oil drain plug and it was clean

Copper means your bearing are going.

Hoping it clears up for you also

Mine is silver in color so I’m guessing aluminum.

I really hate that the Blackstone oil analysis doesn’t test the visible particles, only the microscopic stuff
