Here ya go:
Bob Fulz in Ohio
He makes a set that eliminates mounting through the water pump.

I seem to remember seeing on this forum quite a few years ago, a post from a member who had fabricated C1 motor mounts that bolted on to the side of the block, and then rested on the same frame support as does the mount that goes behind the water pump. This would be the same as the Bob Fulz mount but it bolts on to the side of the block instead of the front. He said he'd make them up and sell them to anyone who was interested.

I've tried to find the post but have not had any success. Does anyone remember it or know where to find it?

Hi Leif,

Thank-you for the reply. These attach to the front of the block like Bob's. The ones I'm looking for bolt to the side of the block where the usual side-mounts attach.

Hi Leif,

Thank-you for the reply. These attach to the side of the block but need the other half to be welded to the frame.. The ones I'm looking for attach to the side of the block but then come forward and rest on the rubber bushings that the original mount rests on.

I have never seen custom C1 mounts that go off the side of the block - would like to see a photo.
They might be a better option than the mounts that go off the bottom front of the block - forum search :

C1 front motor mounts?

Because of where they mount the low block mounted mounts look like they might want to put a twisting load on the frame mounts which may be a concern if doing any racing that involves repeated heavy braking.

I don't have a photo, except the one in my head. I have the same apprehension as you. The front motor mounts are attached close to the source of the torque. If the mounts are attached to the side of the block, they are displaced radially further away and therefore would have better control. The original mount that goes behind the water pump is also radially displaced and has good control and presumably that is why G.M. set it up this way but it can be a bit of a pain. If we had a mount that attaches to the side of the block and rests on the original rubber cushions, we would have the advantage of good control without the problems that we sometimes experience with the original mount.

Dont ask me what years exactly but when I was a kid it seems like the early 265 and 283 blocks did NOT have side mounts cast in them?? This stuff was new enough for " broke " kids to find and use.. So occasionally it was a OOPS, this wont work moment...... . Didn't Tri Five chevys all have a front and rear mounting system before side mounts became standard?? I wanna say you needed a specific Bellhousing too for the two rear mounts?? Been a long time ago........

Yes I recall the cast iron bell h'sgs with side mounts - too bad they didn't do that with Corvette's as the sag load / stress couldn't be worse with the stock engine and transmission mounting.
The sag force is pretty much all concentrated on the bell housing (and transmission) - reason why I don't use the C1 aluminum bell housing for weight saving for competition / race purposes
