Overall, the car runs very well. I’ve done a ton of work on it since I purchased (see picture of new/replaced/refurbished items), including new tires and brakes/calipers on all 4 wheels, rebuilt carb, completely refurbished interior (including new wire harness, sound deadening, temp insulation, and carpet), rebuilt power steering, modern stereo, new weather stripping, refurbished power window mechanicals, new hoses throughout, rebuilt front and rear suspension with new rubber/shocks, new water pump, etc. I’ve taken it on trips of several hundred miles and drive it to work on most sunny days in the summer with no problems. I even got caught in a traffic jam on a 110 degree day and the temp gauge barely budged.
Nearly everything works on the car as it should (see below for a couple of exceptions) including all gauges and lights (clock is disconnected but does work as it should). Mileage and age of the engine is unknown however the engine is in excellent shape with leakdown tests showing near zero and >165 PSI compression in every cylinder. I suspect that the engine was recently rebuilt before it was parked in Mississippi (it also had a brand new fuel tank when I purchased). While I can’t prove it, I believe the car was in the south most or all of its life because there is only surface rust on a very solid frame and all suspension components were in good shape even before I refurbished them. I’ve done a lot of work on this car and never ran across even a single bolt rusted in place. The birdcage is original but in decent condition with surface rust but structurally sound. There is no evidence that the car has ever been in an accident. What appears to be the original bonding agent is on the inside of the fiberglass body panels suggesting they’ve never been replaced.
The biggest thing holding this car back is the paint which is in “10 foot” condition. I suspect it was a Maaco or similar paint job done by a previous owner. Further, one side of the t-top is not 1969 (I believe 1974?) though you can only tell from the inside. There are few paint chips and other paint defects when you look up close. The side pipes also have a little rust in the nooks and crannies when you look close, likely from condensation while sitting in an unheated garage in the winter. Hood is not original and the wiper door was removed to fit the aftermarket hood.
Known mechanical issues are a slow oil leak in the engine (maybe a half quart every 2000 miles) and “weeping” around the seals of the transmission (maybe a tablespoon every 2000 miles). The heater motor blows but it is a little weak. The “astro vent” vacuum actuator inside the cabin doesn’t work though I refurbished the whole thing so it might have something to do with the HVAC selector. Rear fiber optics work and are connected but the lenses are missing on the rear lights so they don’t light up in the cabin. The speedometer bounces on speeds under 15 mph but is accurate otherwise. Other than that, everything works as it should. The spare tire holder is included in the sale but it’s not attached to the car.
I’m selling just because I’m ready for the next project and need the room in my garage. I’m happy to take other pictures for an interested party though I don’t have a lift which makes taking pictures of the undercarriage difficult. I’m in the Cleveland OH metro area (east side) and willing to let agents of a possible buyer take a look at the car. If you’d like more information, please PM me and I’ll send you my email and phone number which I check way more often than I do the PMs here. Reasonable offers considered.
