I stocked up on some Pennzoil Ultra Premium 5w-30 since they are claiming a synthetic oil change shortage is on the horizon, plus increased pricing. I should be good for 1-2 years, especially the low mileage I drive on the C6.
There are also Toyota and GM TSB's being issued about motor oil shortages. GM told that they may have to push back oil changes if supply drops. So if a customer wants an oil change, they may have to come back in 1-2 months since supply is low.
So it might be a good time to go to WalMart or wherever you get your oil and get some 5 quart jugs.
Thanks for heads up...I read the shortages will be the zero oils...0/20 etc... not sure why full synthetic mobil one would be short supply since no dino oil in it...

The lubricant industry relies heavily on imports from the Middle East and Asia-Pacific for Group III base oils, a key ingredient in many of those modern synthetic motor oils.
ILMA noted that recent attacks and supply disruptions have sidelined roughly 44% of U.S. Group III supply
Group III base oil prices have climbed to "more than $10/gallon" — historically high levels — and that global supply levels are expected to "deteriorate rapidly through 2026," with the market remaining undersupplied through 2027.
As typical for corporations, they will play into the "supply issue" to raise their prices so engine oil will go up in price as demands increase and supplies drop.
OW weight oils will go out of stock first, since they were low to begin with. Then the remaining 5W weight oil will follow. US Oil asked South Korea to help produce more synthetic oils but SK said they are already maxed out with helping to create jet and diesel fuel.

Amazon is out of stock for the 5 qt 3 pack 5W30 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum which is the only oil i use, but Summit Racing has this oil in stock in the 5 qt and 1 qt.
Similarly, a bunch of douch-tubers have also recently tried to get people to panic by 9mm, saying there was a coming "shortage". Plenty of 9mm everywhere.
Same is true for oil. Ignore the BS; they are just farming for views.
As with everything, hysteria leads to panic buying which leads to increased demand and higher prices. We are always being manipulated.
Social media amplifies it, and every platform is incentivized to inflate things more for clicks and this money. That's how you get idiots like Scotty Kilmer that do nothing but click bait older generations who are unfortunately very receptive to this sort of stuff.
Whether or not it's being hyped up or not, the issue is legit.
Toyota, Nissan, GM and other major car manufacturers already confirmed the engine oil shortage is legit. Mobil and Shell informed Costco and Walmart earlier this month that they have no packaged product left to send them. “Expect bare shelves in the motor oil section in a few weeks” The internal AutoZone memo (whether confirmed or not) clearly says the same thing Toyota, Nissan, Mobil, Shell, etc are saying.
ILMA (Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association) confirmed the engine oil shortage and released its own statement and noted that supply disruptions have sidelined roughly 44% of U.S. Group III supply, which is how synthetic oils are made.
Time will tell but there are numerous legit companies all saying the same thing.
