Will these tracks I found on ebay be correct to convert from my power drivers seat to manual? I thought these tracks were rare and that is what I am asking the question. Thanks in advance.
No, they will not work on the driver's side of an 81 (or 82) Corvette. The tracks you need have 2 or 3 inch high extensions on them to cause them to make up for the depth of the well in the floor. Those tracks will work on an 80 Corvette, and maybe for an 81 passenger seat.
There was a thread on here recently where a fellow 81 owner confessed it was easier to change the floorpans, than deal with the seat adapters needed for the drop floor.
Those seats were the bane of my existence! I ended up biting the bullet, cutting out the floor pan and replacing it with a standard one. That way, I could just use a manual track and be done with the power seat all together. That said, I ended up doing a body off frame restoration, so by the time I got around to it, it was no longer a big deal.
Last I had checked, I believe Top Flight (I believe) was offering a repair service for the tracks, but you had to send the track in, which means no seat for a while.
That floor pan caused so many issues for me. Because so few were made, most manufacturers of aftermarket products either don’t know it’s a thing, or ignore the different floor pan entirely. Seat tracks, carpeting, headers - none of them fit right because they don’t take into consideration the different depth of the floor pan. If you plan on doing a lot of work to the car, I’d recommend you consider just swapping the floor pan. It removes a ton of headaches.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard! Changing the floor cause you can't either fabricate brackets yourself or hire someone to do it I can only imagine what the installed floor must look like.
I was able to get my power seat "working" by jumping out the wires on the switch. I have it in the position I want now. I am going to create a new switch panel with momentary switches so I can adjuster it later on.
