1962 average production timeframe
I have heard a couple of answers about the time frame for this effort. One estimate was the time between when a car assembly was started at St. Louis to when the car was delivered to the ordering dealership was from 1 to 2 weeks. I heard another estimate that indicated that this time frame was 2 to 4 weeks. I to 2 weeks sounds reasonable.
I am specifically looking for the time frame in order to estimate what the possible range of VINs are for a specific car.
The 1962 Corvette in question was delivered to the customer on Saturday, 12/16/61. I assume that the car was delivered to the dealership in Colorado Springs, CO no later than Friday, 12/15/61. I further assume that the car production was completed at St. Louis assembly plant no later than Thursday, 12/14/61. I know these are latest case estimates, but that works for my effort.
OK, assuming the car production was completed on 12/14/61, the last Corvette manufactured on 12/14/61 was 4092 (20867S104092). Now, assuming that normal production time frame was 1 to 2 weeks, the earliest date that the car would have been assembled was 2 weeks prior to 12/14/61. The date 2 weeks prior to 12/14/61 was 11/30/61.
Now, the first corvette manufactured on 11/30/61 was 3412 (20867S103412).
The total cars manufactured from 11/30/61 to 12/14/61 was 4092 - 3412 = 680 cars.
OK, that is my basic math for typical 1962 Corvette production.
Tell me what you all think? What am I doing wrong here?
